After Stephen Reid’s (Todd Boyce) death, Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne), who was the one to ultimately end the serial killer’s life in Coronation Street, has been going through difficult times.
Viewers have seen Peter start to get closer to ex Toyah Battersby (Georgia Taylor) after wife Carla’s (Alison King) impromptu trip to Spain, and that has continued in recent scenes.
When the two ran into each other at Roy’s Rolls on tonight’s (November 3) episode, Peter disclosed that he had just wrapped up his first shift back after taking a break.
He continued to describe his coping mechanisms, stating that while he was still unable to completely get rid of the memories of what had happened, Audrey Roberts’ (Sue Nicholls’) admission that it wasn’t his fault had made a small difference.
He acknowledged that he was still feeling bad about what he had done, but Toyah’s reassurance that he had overcome worse and would overcome this gave him some solace.
Toyah offered to go with Peter, and he gladly accepted when he revealed that he was going to an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting later that afternoon.
Peter was taken aback, nevertheless, when his son Simon (Alex Bain) unexpectedly paid him a visit and informed him that his boiler was leaking and asked to stay for a while.
Simon quickly asked if they could have lunch together after Peter gave his approval, since they hadn’t spent much time together recently.
Peter agreed in spite of his plans and called Toyah shortly after to clarify.
Following an afternoon spent playing video games with Simon, Toyah knocked on Peter’s door and struck up a quiet discussion with him.
Simon was clearly becoming suspicious, especially after Peter told her he had to run outside to help her with a car problem.
Simon suggested that she should ask mechanic Kevin Webster (Michael Le Vell), but Peter dismissed him, saying there was nothing wrong with him taking a peek.
Naturally, Peter’s real intention was to attend a meeting because Toyah had told him about a different, later one they could go to.
Though Simon was oblivious to this, it was obvious that he had started to wonder what his father was up to with his ex-partner.
Could Simon put Peter in hot water by telling Carla about his suspicions? And is Peter and Toyah actually involved in anything more?
