Coronation Street spoilers: Struggling Amy arrested at date rape protest

In forthcoming Coronation Street scenes, Amy Barlow (Elle Mulvaney) is going to run afoul of the law when she attempts to participate in an anti-spiking demonstration.

While Amy is occupied creating signs for the march, Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson) approaches Amy’s closest friend Summer Spellman (Harriet Bibby) and shares his worries regarding his daughter.

He admits that he wishes she would give her degree the same priority that she has given it.

Afterwards, Evelyn and Cassie Plummer (Maureen Lipman and Claire Sweeney) accompany Amy and Summer, and the four of them depart for the march.

Bully Mason (Luca Toolan) makes derogatory remarks to them while they are travelling, and Amy quickly becomes agitated.

As she prepares to beat him with her placard, a police officer steps in, yet Amy refuses to tow the line.

The actress Elle Mulvaney stated, “I think she’s just very triggered.” She keeps witnessing the same incident, in which a male acts in a misogynistic manner and the cops get called, just to reprimand her. Amy instantly gets back up because, in her opinion, she hasn’t done anything wrong.

Amy thinks that she was going to march peacefully, that some stupid lad tried to stop her, and that she is now being held responsible.

‘So whereas certainly all of us can understand that Amy’s actions are bad, she shouldn’t lash out in that way, Amy can only see red because she’s witnessing a police officer fail to aid her again.

‘The same thing is happening again, it’s almost like she has been triggered first by the chat with Kate and then she’s getting triggered again by the cops. All of her emotions are being built up to the point where she finally explodes.

When Amy refuses to put down the sign as instructed by the officer, Summer is appalled. She is even more astonished when Amy takes up a paint can and splashes the police cruiser.

Amy doesn’t seem to care that the cops had to arrest her for criminal mischief since she lashed out.

Normally, Amy would be concerned about getting into trouble with the law, but she’s in such a bad place mentally that she can’t even stop to realise that what she’s done is unlawful. She’s in too much of an emotional condition to care.

“Trying to reason with her is really difficult, and that is what Summer is up against.” Amy is very tough to talk to because, in her mind, she is right, she hasn’t done anything wrong, and she is willing to stand up for what she believes. Summer is attempting to talk to Amy because she recognises that there is a downward spiral going on.

Will Amy’s friends and family be able to come together and support her as she spirals farther out of control?
