In recent Emmerdale events, Eric Pollard (Chris Chittell) finally confided in Brenda (Lesley Dunlop) about his Parkinson’s diagnosis.
Though Eric was adamant about hiding his illness, he ultimately told Lisa Riley’s character Mandy Dingle (a few days ago).
Then, to his surprise, he discovered that his grandson Jacob Gallagher (Joe-Warren Plant) had studied his medical records and knew the secret as well.
Eric decided to stop his relationship with Brenda, thinking he would be protecting her, and he was determined that no one else would find out.
Brenda, of course, saw things differently and was devastated because she was unaware of Eric’s genuine intentions.
Brenda was heartbroken to discover a necklace among his possessions after Eric had a sudden change of heart and assumed he must have another girlfriend.
She confronted Eric when he got home, but a letter in the package revealed that he had really purchased the necklace for her.
Brenda was completely perplexed and demanded to know why he had actually broken up with her. Eric then revealed that he had been attempting to protect her from learning that he had Parkinson’s disease.
Brenda quickly pointed out that she intended to inquire about Eric’s knowledge of the diagnosis, so she clarified her question when she asked “how long.” Eric replied that he may live a very long time because the diagnosis wasn’t a death sentence.
When he revealed that he had begun to notice symptoms a few months prior, she was astounded and was surprised that he hadn’t discussed them with her before.
She became enraged and told Eric he had no right to decide for her when he tried to spare her from “becoming his caregiver.”
Despite his concerns that things were going to get difficult and he might not be the same guy again, she vowed to stand with him.
Now that Brenda is fully aware of what has been happening, will Eric have the guts to tell the rest of his family the truth?
