Fans have enjoyed seeing EastEnders evolve and learning how the return of former cast members and the introduction of new ones affect the Walford community ever since Chris Clenshaw assumed the post of showrunner.
Naturally, Cindy Beale’s (Michelle Collins) comeback has been one of the largest in recent memory. When it was announced earlier this year that Cindy was, in fact, alive and living in Albert Square while attempting to reintegrate into London society, the EastEnders audience was left stunned.
We learned that Cindy had been living undercover as Rose Knight for around 20 years after her incarceration in a French-set episode.
The installment also verified that Cindy was living with their son Peter (Thomas Law) and dating Ian Beale (Adam Woodyatt).
Cindy was welcomed by the Knight family upon her return to her former residence. After travelling from Marbella to Walford after Lucy Beale’s death, Cindy—then going by Rose—married George (Colin Salmon) and gave birth to Gina (Francesca Henry) and Anna (Molly Rainford). However, she was ordered to leave the family for security reasons.
Meanwhile, when Dean Wicks (Matt Di Angelo) returned to the Queen Vic pub a few weeks earlier, Linda Carter (Kellie Bright) was shocked.
Since their last appearance in 2016, Dean has worked with Cindy and Ian on their new pie and mash company. He currently resides in Walford because he has to be near his ailing daughter Jade, who is in the hospital.
Despite the fact that EastEnders has been on our televisions for more than 35 years, it’s crucial for the soap opera to be contemporary and relevant. However, viewers will find it nostalgic when their favourite characters return to the programme.
Upon contemplating his tenure as EastEnders’ head, Chris Clenshaw mentioned one character above all others when questioned about returning to the show.
“Grant Mitchell, let’s have some more brotherly drama with Phil!” he said in a TV Times interview.
When Grant got back together with his family for Peggy Mitchell’s (Barbara Windsor) funeral in 2016, it was the last time we saw him.
Back in January, Ross Kemp was questioned once again about taking on the post.
He said, “I don’t think you can ever say never, you know?” to presenters Alex Jones and Jermaine Jenas of The One Show after one of their fans asked the question on social media.
I performed the role for ten years because I enjoyed it.
I spent ten years there, so I must have enjoyed it. However, I must admit, I had a terrific time, the cast was fantastic, and the work was excellent. Right now, [I’m] involved in a number of various activities, but never say never!
