In Friday’s (December 1) episode of Emmerdale, Eric Pollard looks for David Metcalfe’s successor while attempting to keep the store running smoothly.
After a week of dramatic confessions, David bowed out of the village this week in order to start again in London, much to the astonishment of his loved ones.
Since David won’t be there to oversee the store anymore, Eric’s first responsibility in this Friday’s episode is keeping it afloat.
Tracy Robinson, the ex-wife of David, is approached by Eric to take on some shifts. Eric is convinced that Tracy can quickly get back up to speed since she has prior experience working there.
Although Tracy offers to assist, will she find anything odd about David’s sudden departure from the village?
The truth about the student’s connection with Victoria Barton came to light during David’s leaving week, which caused his relationship with his son Jacob Gallagher to fall apart.
David thought Jacob had betrayed him by going for his ex-partner. He warned Jacob not to call him “dad” in a farewell row.
Throughout the course of the week, David learned the truth about Eric’s new diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease in other sequences.
This all coincided with news that David’s young daughter Amba needed him, so he headed off to London to support her.
In real life, Matthew Wolfenden – who plays David – chose to leave Emmerdale this year to pursue other projects.
Appearing on ITV’s This Morning in September, Matthew explained: “I’m so nervous about leaving, almost two decades.
“It feels like the right time. The door’s left open, they’re not killing me off, I’ve been promised. I’m allowed to tell you that. So who knows, I might be back, we will see.”
Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
