In the final weeks leading up to the much-awaited Christmas murder mystery’s resolution, EastEnders has whittled down the pool of possible victims.

The male resident who will pass away at Christmas has been the subject of intense speculation among viewers of the BBC One soap opera, since a shocking death was hinted at in a historic flashforward storyline back in February.

In commemoration of the 38th anniversary of the serial drama, a special episode featured the bonding of six renowned Walford matriarchs during a lock-in at The Queen Vic.

The women in question, Linda Carter (Kellie Bright), Denise Fox (Diane Parish), Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean), Kathy Beale (Gillian Taylforth), Stacey Slater (Lacey Turner), and Suki Panesar (Balvinder Sopal), spoke about their thoughts and lifted their glasses as the evening drew to an end.

They toasted to all the men who had wronged them throughout the years with their last drink, hoping that one day they would get justice.

In a terrifying flashback, we are transported to Christmas Day, when the same women screamed in dismay as they loomed over a dead man’s body on the tavern floor. Sharon, dressed in a bridal gown, was seen assessing the man’s pulse and announcing his death.

Ever since, fans have been curious to find out which male character would die during the holidays. With all of the naughty behaviour and vicious deeds that the men of Walford have committed this year, there have been a lot of options.

With just a few weeks remaining, EastEnders has helped fans by reducing the number of potential victims. A fresh set of promotional images for the show’s holiday episode has confirmed that the victim will be one of seven locals.

Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden), Nish Panesar (Navin Chowdhry), Dean Wicks (Matt Di Angelo), Keanu Taylor (Danny Walters), Ravi Gulati (Aaron Thiara), and Rocky Cotton (Brian Conley) are the actors that play Jack Branning (Scott Maslen).

Christmas will bring the death of one of them. But to whom?

But who will die when Christmas rolls around? (Image: BBC / Jack Barnes / Matt Burlem / Kieron McCarron)

That is the query.

In one of the photos, the males are seen standing across from the corresponding matriarch to whom their narrative is connected; Sharon is surrounded by two male characters, Phil and Keanu.

In the alternate picture, the evil guys are posing in The Vic in the exact location where the body would be discovered. Along with a promotional photo, the figures were engulfed by smoke, exactly as The Six were back in February.

Interestingly, however, Theo Hawthorne (William Ellis), who has been tormenting Stacey for much of the year, isn’t seen in the scene, which seems to rule him out as the victim.

Rather, Jack is seen close to Stacey. A portent of future events? It’s reasonable to assume that this Christmas is not one to be missed, but we’ll just have to wait and see.

The murder case’s resolution from EastEnders airs on BBC One on Christmas Day at 9:45 p.m.
