EastEnders spoilers: Marriage destroyed as Denise and Jack split ahead of murder

It seems divorce may be on the cards for Denise and Jack (Picture: BBC/Jack Barnes/Kieron McCarron)

Holidays. A season of happiness, festivity, and, in many families, dissolution. Honestly, we wouldn’t anticipate anything less from EastEnders.

We can’t say we’re surprised that Denise Fox’s (Diane Parish) and Jack Branning’s (Scott Maslen) marriage is in disarray during this joyous season.

This couple’s relationship has seen more ups and downs than a yo-yo this year, and it now appears as though the string is about to break and take a permanent dive.

Things appear promising at the start of the week when Denise decides she is ready to fight for her marriage, but she is ignorant of the fact that a remorse-ridden Jack has sparked trouble by snapping at Amy and Ricky (Ellie Dadd and Frankie Day).

But when Raymond cuts them off in their conversation, Denise reluctantly goes back to No. 27 to carry on.

Soon after making a startling discovery, Denise goes to No. 20 to ask sister Kim (Tameka Empson) for advice.

Kim states unequivocally that she believes Denise ought to file for divorce from Jack because their union is obviously over.

Denise considers Kim’s viewpoint and concludes it’s time to end things permanently. She then starts packing.

Unfortunately, Amy, who is horrified to learn of her impending departure, stops her.

Denise and Jack, who are searching desperately for Amy as she runs from the house, are relieved to see her sobbing in the playground.

Denise’s plan to leave the family home is dashed when Jack quickly accuses her of being the reason behind Amy’s mental state and bans her from leaving the house, trapping her in her failing marriage.

Later on, when Jack tries to apologise, Denise won’t accept his apology for blackmailing Amy by taking advantage of her mental illness.

Denise, Linda Carter (Kellie Bright), Suki Panesar (Balvinder Sopal), Kathy Beale (Gillian Taylforth), Stacey Slater (Lacey Turner), and Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean) attend the carol concert together and watch as they all try to repress their inner turmoil.
