Emmerdale spoilers: Dramatic birth drama revealed for Dawn as Kim collapses

In Emmerdale, Dawn Taylor (Olivia Bromley) is about to give birth, but sadly, the birthing plan and Kim Tate’s (Claire King) ability to keep everything together might not survive.

Kim’s involvement in Craig’s (Ben Addis) death has caused her to struggle in the run-up to Christmas. Ice the horse ran away and kicked the rapist, killing him, when Kim discovered Craig on her property.

In upcoming episodes, Kim will admit to Will (Dean Andrews) that she was involved in Craig’s last moments. Will feels wholly deceived when she shares her version of events.

The following day, Will is horrified to discover Kim inebriated and leaning against Dawn’s birthing pool while he mulls over whether or not to reveal Kim’s secret.

Will is concerned about Kim’s condition and what it means for Dawn, who wants Kim to be her birthing partner, as she hurries off to throw up.

Dawn’s contractions begin at the Christmas fair, but will she be able to make it to Home Farm in time for the baby’s birth?

“I think Dawn wants to do everything totally different and almost is putting herself under extreme pressure to be the perfect mother, pregnant person,” Olivia Bromley said, speaking about Dawn’s pregnancy storyline. “Dawn has obviously had quite a traumatising experience being pregnant when she was addicted to heroin at the time and had her baby taken away from her.”

She is quite anxious about it and finds it hard to believe. Therefore, she makes the very difficult decision to give up drugs entirely. She also chooses a holistic approach; she wants a water birth and wants it to be perfect, but things don’t always go as planned in life. As a result, she ends up giving birth at the Christmas Fair, where she is actually with Aaron at the moment rather than Billy.

“Although she did not anticipate giving birth, she was able to resume her drug-free regimen and the baby turned out well.”

Thankfully, Kim is there to assist Dawn in giving birth, which Olivia characterises as a “wholesome” experience.

Kim is ultimately a great help, which is a really nice element because Dawn and Kim had a very difficult past. It dates back to Dawn’s first relationship with Jamie, and Kim didn’t think he was the right kind of woman to be in her son’s life. Now that Dawn and Kim are getting closer, their relationship is almost like that of a mother and daughter, so it is a huge deal for both of them that Kim is asked to be the birthing partner.

Kim participates in the birth and offers assistance. Everyone is involved—Billy is there, Will is involved.

“This birth is a large family event, but it’s really beautiful for Christmas; it’s a happy, healthy Christmas, and everything goes according to plan.”
