In an attempt to conceal their relationship from Emmerdale, Jacob Gallagher (Joe-Warren Plant) and Victoria Sugden (Isabel Hodgins) gave his father, David Metcalfe (Matthew Wolfenden), the impression that Gabby Thomas (Rosie Bentham) was his secret girlfriend.
Victoria hurried upstairs when David got home and nearly caught Jacob and her in an awkward moment. Jacob claimed it was Gabby, and David knew there was another person in the house.
Later, when David saw Gabby in the Woolpack, he couldn’t help but tease her, leaving her totally confused about what was going on.
In later episodes, after speaking with Jacob, Gabby’s confusion only gets worse. He’s clearly in love, but Gabby can only assume that he’s talking about her based on his words.
Later, when she sees how well Dawn (Olivia Bromley) and Billy Fletcher (Jay Kontzle) get along, she starts to think about her own romantic relationships and wonders if Jacob feels the same way about her.
She decides she needs to correct him because she is positive that she doesn’t feel the same way about him.
After a very awkward exchange of words, Gabby finally realises that Jacob isn’t talking about her at all, but rather the woman he is in love with—his former almost-stepmother Victoria.
Gabby is naturally shocked to learn the truth, but now that she is aware of it, Jacob and Victoria realise they had better break the news of their relationship to Eric Pollard (Chris Chittell) and Leyla Harding (Roxy Shahidi) before they find out from someone else.
It needs to score quite high on the difficulty scale, since they know Pollard will be really furious that David departed the town in part because he was left heartbroken by Jacob and Victoria.
Leyla, on the other hand, has never been fond of Victoria since Victoria is well aware of what it’s like to be the target of Leyla’s ire.
In order to inform Leyla and Pollard simultaneously, Jacob and Victoria summon the bravery to call a meeting.
