Coronation Street set for explosive Christmas storylines as familiar faces return

The people of Coronation Street have had an incredible year, with many of them receiving heartbreaking news or seeing several of their favourite characters leave the show.

With Todd Boyce’s Stephen Reid’s major plotline coming to a finish, Coronation Street has had one exciting year. Instead of trying to stop Stephen from fleeing, Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne) ran over him, killing him.

With motor neurone illness, Paul Foreman (Peter Ash) has been told he only has a few months to live. Following a severe acid attack, Ryan Connor (Ryan Prescott) and Daisy Midgeley (Charlotte Jordan) started an affair.

Since he hasn’t seen his wife Aggie Bailey (Lorna Laidlaw) in months, Ed Bailey (Michael Georges) has reverted to his previous gambling habits. The street has been tormented by Hope Stape (Isabelle Flanagan) and David Platt (Jack P. Shephard), who is trying to keep his chaotic family together.

Christmas is a time for celebrations and family, but not for those who live in Weatherfield, where the drama is expected to last into the new year.

Jenny Connor (Sally-Ann Matthews) and Daisy are determined to raise the money to repurchase the bar in scenes that will air in the upcoming weeks.

Will they be able to safeguard the future of the popular watering hole on the street by using drastic measures?

Daisy’s personal future is as uncertain as a result of Daniel Osbourne’s (Rob Mallard) betrayal of her and the revelation of her affair with Ryan.

Daisy is determined to make things right and isn’t giving up. But will they be sharing a kiss beneath the mistletoe this Christmas?

Carla Connor (Alison King) has a beautiful and painful Christmas when Peter says goodbye to Weatherfield.

Peter has been fighting his past problems ever since he killed Stephen, becoming more and more drawn to alcohol as he battles Carla’s insistence on getting the factory back on track.

Will Carla’s marriage suffer as a result, or will they be able to look forward to their future together?

Ed’s self-esteem isn’t much improved by dad Sarge Bailey’s (Ram John Holder) return, as he fights to control his cravings to gamble once more. Ed hits a devastating new low as his old habit overcomes him, which will have an effect on the Bailey family’s Christmas celebrations.

With mom Bernie in jail, Gemma Winter-Brown (Dolly-Rose Campbell) and Paul are dealing with their own heartbreak.

Paul and Billy fight to make every moment matter because they know it might be Paul’s last Christmas, and Gemma struggles with her connections at home after being accused of being a bad parent. Nonetheless, the families come together in typical Winter-Brown fashion to create a memorable Christmas.

The drama appears to be just getting started for some as 2023 draws to an end and the New Year arrives. Watchers can anticipate pyrotechnics as Bethany Platt (Lucy Fallon) unexpectedly reappears on the street. Is her unexpected visit more than just a get-together with family?

Sarah Platt (Tina O’Brien) was devastated not only to see her daughter returned but also to see her ex-boyfriend Damon Hay (Ciaran Griffiths) back.

Reconciliation appears to be in the works following a hopeful New Year’s Eve spent with estranged spouse Adam Barlow (Sam Robertson). However, just as Sarah is about to give up on her dreams, Damon reappears in her life, driven by his desire to exact revenge on Adam and win back the woman of his life.

Furthermore, whirlwind Bobby Donovan (Jack Carroll) quickly turns Auntie Carla’s life upside down when Rob Donovan’s (Marc Baylis) son knocks on her home.

Is Bobby going to add even more mayhem to the cobbles, or is he just what she needs?
