Only a few days after Steve Halliwell’s passing at the age of 77, Emmerdale paid homage to him.

The ITV soap opera released a statement last week stating that the Zak Dingle actor passed away “peacefully.”

“We would ask that their privacy be respected as they grieve for his loss. All of our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and loved ones during this very difficult time,” the statement said.

“Steve will always be associated with Emmerdale.”

The patriarch of the Dingle family and a staunch defender. It has always been hard not to grin when you think of him because of his heart and sense of humour in whatever he accomplished.

After Steve passed away, Emmerdale also honoured him on television with a card at the conclusion of the show’s Monday, December 18 episode.

It said, “Dedicated to Steve Halliwell.”

Following the memorial, fans were eager to remark. One wrote: “Lovely tribute from @emmerdale for Steve Haliwell.” I’m still in shock about Steve’s demise. The legend of Emmerdale.

“Oh, they’re dedicating tonight’s ep to Steve aka Zak #Emmerdale,” said someone else.

Fans have been thinking back on Steve’s time in Emmerdale as Dingle patriarch Zak, especially his last appearance in the series, ever since news of his demise spread.

The incident in issue happened in June when the beloved father went on a mobility scooter ride with Dan Spencer (Liam Fox).

Dan remarked how good it is to see Zak out and about as he quipped that the potholes on the roads are plenty and that he’ll “give the ring of fire a miss.”

One of the best characters in Emmerdale was Zak Dingle (Image: ITV/REX / Shutterstock).

In 1994, not long after Emmerdale Farm was rebranded, Zak made his Emmerdale debut. Zak, a former bareknuckle boxer, immediately made an impression by threatening to fight Ned Glover.

Over the course of almost three decades, the iconic figure would appear in several significant stories, one of which dealt powerfully with his mental health.

We will definitely miss seeing him on our televisions. His marriage to wife Lisa (Jane Cox) is still one of the best relationships in soap opera history.

Weeknights at 7:30 p.m., ITV1 and ITVX broadcast Emmerdale.
