The following contains spoilers for this Friday’s (December 22) episode of EastEnders, which can be streamed on BBC iPlayer right now.
Things took an unexpected turn when rapist Dean Wicks (Matt Di Angelo) and Linda Carter (Kellie Bright) got into a passionate altercation about Wicks’ most recent cruel act, with only a few days till Christmas.
The Queen Vic’s landlady has had a terrible year because she lost her beloved Mick (Danny Dyer), who vanished at sea while attempting to save her from the dangerous waves.
Linda’s life was turned into a nightmare by Dean, the man who had sexually assaulted her nine years prior, after he made a surprise appearance on Halloween. His depraved behaviour even caused her to fall off the waggon.
However, Linda was distracted earlier this week when she got a text message purporting to be from Mick. Adamant that it was a hoax, Elaine Peacock (Harriet Thorpe) even implied that Dean was to blame.
But Linda dared to hope that her true love, Mick, would still be alive. So she consented to meet the sender at the location of her and her soulmate’s wedding, and sure enough, Dean stuck his ugly head out to confirm that he was the one who had sent the text.
Startled by his extreme depravity, Linda continued to chastise him. On the other hand, Dean said that he pretended to be Mick in order to grab her attention because he wanted to do the right thing.
Linda was perplexed and asked him to clarify. Dean did so, stating that he questions whether his daughter Jade—who requires a lung transplant—is suffering excessively as a result of his transgressions.
Consequently, he at last acknowledged having raped Linda. After considerable difficulty, he eventually said the words out loud as Linda pressed him to.
But Linda boldly confronted him, telling him again that what he had just done was for his personal good and the benefit of his family, and calling him a “coward,” and she refused to forgive him.
Dean reached for Linda, but she struck him in the face in return, sending him flying to the ground and kicking him. She later made her way back to the Square and sobbed in Sharon Watts’ (Letitia Dean) arms, acknowledging that Mick was indeed gone.
However, as the programme was coming to an end, Linda’s gaze strayed beyond the alcohol bottle in the kitchen and she appeared to be slightly inebriated as she stood there watching the Christmas choir, starring at Dean.
Has Linda tumbled from the waggon once more? Furthermore, will the rapist end up dead on Christmas Day as a result of her resentment towards Dean? Or will one of the other six men be the one to die?
