One of the closest relationships in Emmerdale is that of Rhona Goskirk (Zoe Henry) and Marlon Dingle (Mark Charnock). However, even the most solid relationships may falter, especially over the holidays and in soap operas, and Rhona and Marlon’s are about to face a great deal of stress.
When Mary Goskirk (Louise Jameson) invites Rhona’s ex-husband Gus Malcolms (Alan McKenna) and his infant Ivy to stay with the family during the holidays after visiting Gus and noticing he is struggling, they are joined by two unexpected guests.
The mother of baby Ivy, Lucy, passed away soon after giving birth to the young child; Gus and Rhona had frozen an embryo before getting married. Thus, the infant is a biological member of Rhona.
Zoe Henry brought to our attention that Marlon and Rhona have experienced a great deal together.
“It either makes you stronger or not to go through someone having a very serious condition like having a stroke, and they’ve definitely come out stronger,” she remarked.
Nevertheless, as Zoe noted, difficulties arise the moment Gus and the infant show up.
On Christmas Eve or the day before, Marlon is saying, “This is not happening,” and Mary is responding, “Yes it is.” It’s a very awkward scenario. It’s fantastic; the moments are so delicately worded.
Rhona has an innate sense that the baby is a part of her, but Marlon, of course, doesn’t share that connection with Ivy and is attempting to keep Rhona safe from harm at the end.
“It’s not our baby,” Marlon can say with pragmatism when he takes a step back. In actuality, it’s not his baby. said Zoe. But would I be able to stay away if that were me? Not at all. Never will I. Even if all you’re wondering is, “Does she look like me?”
Christmas is in danger of entirely falling apart due to the tensions created by the scenario, so Rhona puts a lot of effort into keeping things together.
“Zoe noted that Rona is walking a very fine line because she has all three of her children in one location, which is exactly what she wants.” However, both her husband and her ex-husband are unhappy. She’s attempting to juggle plates so that no one breaks and loses their sh*t.
But Zoe knows which way her character would go if attempts to maintain harmony finally failed and it came down to choosing between Marlon and Ivy.
“Ivy, each and every time,” she said.
In a particular scenario, she declares, “I’m doing this with or without you.” You mention something that feels incredibly harsh, yet in my own life, my children come first.
It appears that admirers of Marlon and Rhona together may have some unsettling moments ahead of them.
According to Zoe, “It does impact their marriage and their relationship.”
“They can overcome anything,” I could sit here and say, but it’s soap, so no.”
