Determined to gather evidence that dog abuser Terry is operating an illicit puppy farm on Coronation Street, Evelyn Plummer (Maureen Lipman) quickly finds herself in hot water.
Evelyn decides to follow Terry after spotting him leaving the pound shop carrying a tray of dog food, but he quickly learns she is following him and starts threatening her with violence.
Roy Cropper (David Neilson) calls Terry after Evelyn and Cassie Plummer (Claire Sweeney) show him a dog for sale online and assume Terry is the one who is holding it.
After he speaks with Joan, a lady, she kindly provides him the precinct location, and Cassie soon arrives pretending to bring dog food.
Following the disclosure of Terry’s address, Cassie immediately goes there and enters through a basement window, where she is met with bundles of cash and crates full of pups.
But before Terry can get far enough to enter with a baseball bat, she hears a disturbance outside. Cassie has just enough time to tuck the cash into her pockets and grab the pups as she tries to flee.
Terry looks around the room at the open cages, wondering whether Cassie has escaped.
Later, when Terry has been severely beaten, Craig Tinker (Colson Smith) phones Roy’s Rolls to report that Evelyn had argued with him outside his house before the event.
Cassie watches remorsefully as Evelyn is led into Craig’s patrol vehicle.
Evelyn is relieved the next day when Craig tells the family that she is no longer under suspicion, but Cassie is worried when he says they are still searching for his assailant and that their primary lead is his missing money.
Cassie gives Hope Stape (Isabella Flanagan) a piece of her cash hoard in exchange for her quiet when she subsequently discovers it. Will Hope be purchased?
