The news of Aunt Sal’s (Anna Karen) passing reaches the Square next month, leaving Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) in EastEnders distraught.

Sal, the sassy sister of Peggy (Barbara Windsor), was a powerful presence who never failed to make her presence known by giving her loved ones a realistic dose of truth.

Following the untimely deaths of Ronnie and Roxy (Samantha Womack and Rita Simons) in 2017, the character made her farewell appearance in the more than fifty episodes of the BBC One soap opera in which she had starred since 1996.

Soon after New Year’s, word of her death reaches the Mitchells, and Phil is particularly devastated. Family is everything to the hard man, and in light of the tragic news, he can’t help but think about Albie, especially since he recently found out the youngster is his biological son.

He is so desperate to have access to Albie that he heads straight for Sharon Watts’ (Letitia Dean) house. But Zack Hudson, played by James Farrar, stops him cold.

Meanwhile, Sam (Kim Medcalf) chooses to become involved and plays hardball with Zack, threatening to take Sharon to court if she denies him access to his kid.

But Phil is furious to learn of his younger sister’s strategy and promptly gives her a harsh dressing down.

It seems inevitable that the siblings will reconcile, as evidenced by the latest on-location photos showing the two of them at Aunt Sal’s burial.

Renowned actor Alan Ford will make his stage debut at the funeral as Billy’s (Perry Fenwick) estranged father, Stevie Mitchell.

Billy was raised in foster care from the age of ten, after Stevie’s adoption of Charlie as his own child. Charlie and Billy had not been seen together off-screen for more than 25 years.

When the two finally meet in person for the first time in 25 years, how will Billy respond?
