Emmerdale spoilers: Charity Dingle’s torment as she is faced with child sex abuser DI Bails

Even though Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) believed she had laid DI Bails’ spirit to rest when he passed away earlier this year following a heart attack while he was incarcerated, her old abuser continues to haunt her in Emmerdale.

In Soapland, we are all too aware that life goes on after death.

Previously, DI Bails served a 30-year sentence in prison when it was discovered that he had molested Charity over several months while she was a teenager.

Unbeknownst to young Charity, one of the horrifying outcomes of her horrendous torture at the age of 14 was that she became pregnant with Ryan Stocks (James Moore), who was abducted and adopted by the midwife. Fortunately, Ryan and Charity were able to get back in touch years later.

With his own son Oscar, who was also placed for adoption as a newborn, Ryan is currently dealing with a similar circumstance.

Despite Oscar’s adoptive mother Sophie’s best efforts to keep him away from his biological parents, the intrepid youngster finds a way to the village. He is in search of answers and wants to know where he came from. He’s going to unintentionally uncover ancient graves.

Following a confrontation, Charity escorts an enraged Oscar away to allow Sophie, Ryan, and Gail some space after he is instructed to go home and be with his mother.

However, Oscar has some inquiries for Charity that reopens some recently healed wounds while the grownups are chatting. Mack Boyd (Lawrence Robb) suggests that she keep her answers to the boy brief, but Oscar asks pointed questions about DI Bails, Ryan’s grandpa and father.

Devastated Charity is compelled to disclose her age when Ryan was born, and Oscar is intrigued enough to figure out what it implies. Oscar tells Charity, much to her astonishment, that he’s relieved his grandfather isn’t around anymore as they continue their talk.

Does this represent progress for the family?
