In EastEnders, teenage mother Lily Slater (Lillia Turner) hasn’t had an easy time raising her daughter Charli, and things are going to grow harder as the New Year approaches.
When Charli was born, Lily was barely 13 years old. She quickly realised that parenthood was far more difficult than she had anticipated.
Since Charli was born in September, during mum Stacey Slater’s (Lacey Turner) experience at the hands of eerie stalker Theo Hawthorne (William Ellis), she has been keen to show that she can be a decent mother.
Stacey has had to step in to help Charli on several occasions, but she was so involved that she started a vicious cycle that made Lily lose faith in herself.
However, Stacey’s worries made sense.
Lily once brought Charli out for an afternoon with Ricky Branning Jr. (Frankie Day). However, everything went south when they attempted to create a viral film and Jack Branning (Scott Maslen) saw them trying to give Charli crisps, which may have been fatal for her.
Nan Jean Slater (Gillian Wright) has provided Lily with a great deal of support and guidance throughout the months, advising her on what to do rather than intervening and taking command.
Now that a new term has begun, Lily needs to return to her studies.
She will find it really unusual to be spending hours each day apart from Charli as a result.
How is Lily going to handle this?
Will she miss her child if she returns to school?
Or will Lily wish to return to her pre-motherhood life as she feels a feeling of liberation?
