Coronation Street star Ciaran Griffiths has teased what’s ahead for Damon Hay after his big return, with him set to feature in scenes with Will Mellor’s returning character Harvey Gaskell
The actor Damon Hay of Coronation Street hinted at some gloomy sequences for both himself and a different returning villain.
Following some intense moments earlier in 2023 that had fans fearing for his life, Ciaran Griffiths returned to the ITV soap opera as Damon. After frightening away his own son Jacob Hay, the villain turned his attention to Sarah Platt and destroyed her marriage with Adam Barlow.
His destiny was eventually discovered, and in a recent episode, he returned to the street after it seemed like he was assaulted and went gone. However, in an unexpected turn of events that will broadcast shortly, Damon’s half-brother and fellow Corrie villain Harvey Gaskell will also return.
Harvey contacts Damon when he is still inside after his attempt to assassinate Leanne Battersby and the murder of Natasha Blakeman, among many other crimes. It quickly becomes clear that Harvey is still actively manipulating events from his cell, and the rival siblings who “hate each other” are about to engage in combat.
Though it seems that both are in danger from the other, who will prevail? Ciaran revealed that there will be “intense” sequences, saying, “I really enjoyed doing some big, long scenes with Will.” Something seemed off, as if those visuals really took the viewer on a trip. They’re quite passionate. Will is a fantastic actor, and I love how he’s already fully invested in the role before you even start filming; it helps you both focus and perform better.
“It’s intense, and they don’t get along.” Their fathers are different, and I believe that Damon was somewhat neglected as a child and was always the one given a clip around the ear. Despite being half brothers, I believe they are both harbouring a great deal of animosity against one another.”
He continued, saying, “They both believe they can outsmart one other because they know each other so well. Furthermore, Damon first believes he has Harvey beat since Harvey is inside, but he quickly learns that Harvey can still pull strings regardless of where Harvey is. Harvey can still communicate with people, particularly the ones that Damon values most, whether or not he is imprisoned.”
He said, “A bit of both, I think,” when asked whether his goal upon his return would be to win Sarah over or get vengeance on Adam for sending someone after him. He is obviously captivated with Sarah and has been thinking about her nonstop for the last several months. He is obviously obsessed with trying to win her back and wants to satisfy his itch. He must, however, make one for the unfairness of what Adam did to him.
“Damon was compelled to go without giving Sarah a proper farewell. He was only able to leave Sarah a voicemail, which Adam found and erased. Although Damon isn’t aware of it yet, Adam’s situation will drastically worsen once he does.
“He has a score to settle and wants to make Adam pay; he’s not willing to leave it where Adam has the upper hand. Damon wants to win once again. Regarding Sarah, maybe it would help him gain favour with her when she discovers that Adam was the one who performed the hard work and he didn’t just go.”
