Coronation Street’s Claire Sweeney reveals big twist as Fiz makes dramatic return

Soon, Fiz Stape (Jennie McAlpine) will be back on Coronation Street, which means more problems for Cassie Plummer (Claire Sweeney).

Fiz just started working in Norwich to cover for Jennie’s maternity leave, and she hasn’t been in Weatherfield since. This indicates that she has not yet met Tyrone’s (Alan Halsall) biological mother, Cassie, who is the daughter of Evelyn (Maureen Lipman).

After overcoming a heroin addiction, Cassie’s drama has often put her relationships with Tyrone and Evelyn in jeopardy, but at the end of the day, she only wants to do what’s best for her family.

Cassie will ultimately meet Fiz as she maintains her relationships with people like Tyrone, Hope (Isabella Flanagan), and Ruby (Billie Naylor). Claire Sweeney is eager to see how Cassie’s homecoming will affect things in the Stape/Dobbs/Plummer family.

“I’m really excited to work with Jennie, but I don’t know how Cassie is going to feel,” she remarked.

“Jennie is my love.” However, it will alter the dynamics inside that home. You know, I think the home is full with powerful ladies. Hope among them? Yes, there are three powerful women in this situation, and Fiz’s family and home are adding another one. Tyrone respects Cassie, pardons her, and provides her with his own kind of protection.

Will it change after Fiz returns? Cassie will do her best, however. Although there will be some competition, I’m sure. Cassie could be offended by Fiz and Evelyn’s relationship dynamic. It will be fascinating to observe.

“She’s integrated herself into the family,” Claire grinned, considering the character shift in her.

As an actress and a viewer of the program, I must say that it has been a pleasure working on family sequences as well as situations when the other actors leave the family, such the ones where Roy is involved or where they are in the Rovers, the corner store, and of course the garage. It’s been very nice. She has now somewhat assimilated into this cobblestone culture. The fact that she is interacting with others is fantastic.

Thankfully, her addiction is under control and she is now a member of a family, which is all she has ever desired. Although Cassie engages in some terrible behavior, I constantly look for Cassie’s redeeming qualities and justifications for her actions.

Over Christmas, Evelyn’s attempt to shield a mistreated puppy caused the connection between Cassie and Evelyn to start to shift. Because of their shared affection for the four-legged companion and determination to hold owner Terry accountable, the mother and daughter were able to bond.

They seem to be in love with one other right now, and I like it. Claire said that they had bonded over their pets.

Evelyn is a dog lover, and Cassie is too. It’s the first time the two of them have experienced anything that’s almost like a common interest, and it’s sort of like a little child trying to please her mother. There are times when they stare at one other or when Evelyn supports her in an argument that shows genuine devotion.

“It’s fun acting those scenes with Maureen, and I really enjoyed the scene where they were decorating the Christmas tree.”

Even though Cassie is a disturbed character, Claire affirmed that she would always do her hardest to keep the little family she now has, regardless of what Cassie has to go with over the next weeks.

“I believe Cassie’s favorite activity is simply being a part of this family, sitting on the couch while the kids are getting ready for school and Tyrone is getting ready for himself.” She just has that need. And losing it is what she fears most.

She strives to perform good deeds, like bringing her mother and Roy together or taking Roy on a pleasure trip to deliver the gift to Evelyn. Everything gets off to a nice start before going south.

“She will stop at nothing to preserve that family structure when things go wrong, believing she will lose it.”
