Following issues from horrible dog abuser Terry, Evelyn Plummer (Maureen Lipman) got some very important news in recent scenes on Coronation Street.
Tyrone Dobbs (Alan Halsall) just reported Terry to the police for allegedly keeping Evelyn hostage, leading to Terry’s detention.
Evelyn took his dog from him to protect her from his cruelty, and the abusive owner locked her in the store and demanded that she return it.
Evelyn was informed by Roy Cropper (David Neilson) in tonight’s (January 2) episode that Terry had been charged and would be appearing at his plea hearing the next day.
Evelyn first seemed ecstatic, but when Roy brought up her own dognapping offence, her façade started to crumble.
Roy said that Evelyn may be exposed to the possibility of Terry lying about what she had done when she stated that she would be ready to testify at Terry’s trial, even if she was hoping he would enter a guilty plea.
No matter how well-intentioned Evelyn’s acts may have been, she had breached the law, and Maria Connor (Samia Longchambon) was worried that she may wind up behind bars.
Despite her assurances to them both that it wouldn’t happen, it was subsequently revealed that she had been considering the option since Roy saw that she was clearly unhappy.
Evelyn said that Terry may face a maximum of seven years in jail if she decided to come clean. This was after doing a thorough investigation.
Evelyn was concerned about how long she would have left and if she would be spending the rest of her life behind bars when Roy noted that it seemed like quite a long period.
Evelyn didn’t appear to be persuaded, but Roy was quick to reassure her that she had acted in the dog’s best interests and that hoped it wouldn’t come to that this time.
