Emmerdale spoilers: Cathy exposes Angelica’s secret after Heath’s death

Emmerdale’s Tuesday, January 2, episode focused on the fallout from the horrific car accident that killed Heath Hope (Sebastian Dowling) on New Year’s Eve.

“My son’s dead because of his sister,” said Tony Audenshaw’s character Bob Hope, who was visibly shocked and refused to meet his daughter Cathy Hope (Gabrielle Dowling). To be exact, he wouldn’t leave the hospital until he had seen his son’s body and bid him farewell.

Everyone in the village was in shock after hearing the news. A tearful Tracy Metcalfe (Amy Walsh) gave her daughter Frankie (Eden Ratcliffe-Knights) a very close embrace, while outside the B&B, Laurel Thomas (Charlotte Bellamy) and Chas Dingle (Lucy Pargeter) put flowers.

It was a challenging responsibility for Marlon Dingle (Mark Charnock) and Rhona Goskirk (Zoe Henry) to inform April Windsor (Amelia Flanagan) of her friend’s passing. April felt guilty for not doing more to prevent Cathy from taking the automobile.

The next challenge for Cathy and Angelica King (Rebecca Bakes), the crash survivors, was answering questions from the police once they were taken into custody.

Cathy informed the policeman that it had been her idea to steal the automobile, with Brenda Walker (Lesley Dunlop) at her side. She said that she had picked up driving skills on a farm track in the Lake District while visiting her brother Scott.

Crucially, though, she maintained that she wasn’t driving when the collision occurred even though she took the car out of the village. She mentioned that Angelica had.

Angelica was asked this while being questioned in a separate room. While denying that she was driving, she gave off a little shady impression.

The only person we really saw operating the vehicle in the last episode was Cathy, however at one scene Heath became agitated with her slow speed and yelled at her, “Hurry up and put your foot down, or one of us will drive.”

Although Heath was still in the back seat following the collision, it’s possible that Cathy or Angelica was behind the wheel when the tragic collision occurred because both girls had already exited the vehicle by the time Bob and Wendy Posner (Susan Cookson) arrived.

Was the driver, Angelica? If so, will she acknowledge the truth?

As for Nicola King (Nicola Wheeler), she will fight like a tiger for her daughter, and Brenda has pledged to stick by Cathy “through thick and thin,” so when the truth is known, things will get ugly and terrible for everyone concerned.

Producer Laura Shaw of Emmerdale informed us that this tragedy will “affect two of our most-loved families.” In the end, it will sever friendships and permanently alter the dynamics of one of those families.
