After it was revealed that Ben Mitchell (Max Bowden) will be departing EastEnders in the next months, many fans were left to speculate about what this would signify for the future of his romance with Callum Highway (Tony Clay).
Right now, Ben and Callum have one of the best relationships on the Square, and they have stuck with each other through all of the difficulties they have faced together over the last year.
What plausible cause may there be for them to separate before Ben leaves? None at all, maybe.
With all the awful memories that Albert Square carries for them, there’s a good likelihood that Callum will follow Ben out the door and they’ll both agree to start over somewhere else.
They deserve a happy ending after all they have gone through together, and a location distant from London could be the perfect place to achieve it.
But relationships may alter in the twinkling of an eye—this is EastEnders, after all.
Even though we’re all pulling for Ballum, there’s a good potential that things will deteriorate significantly before Ben leaves, and that it will be a breakup between them that causes him to go.
They’ve broken up in the past but eventually reconciled, so is there a chance this time around?
The last, and maybe most tragic, possibility is that they could be ripped apart for no fault of their own.
We’ve seen how often murders can happen on Albert Square, and it’s logical to assume that throughout the years, Ben and his father Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) have amassed a collection of enemies akin to stamps.
Is it possible that one of them may emerge from hiding and murder Ben as part of a gangster’s retaliation scheme?
We’ll be sorry to see Ben depart, no matter what, but we’re excited to see how things work out.
