Ciarán Griffiths returned to our screens last week as bad boy Damon Hay
After playing a homosexual character on a well-liked Channel 4 program, a Coronation Street actor has spoken out about how he handles hecklers.
Actor Ciarán Griffiths, who plays the evil Damon Hay on the cobbles, claims he is teased and made fun of when he is out and about because of his involvement in the comedy-drama Shameless.
From 2007 until 2012, the forty-year-old played the role of mobster Mickey Maguire on the program. As he struggled to accept his identity as a homosexual man, Mikey played a crucial role in the narrative.
According to The Daily Star, Ciarán has been heckled because of the part, but he is prepared with a three-word retort.
“It’s usually a bunch of drunk lads,” Ciarán said. They are aware that I am straight, but then one boy will declare, “I have to ask this question,” drawing the attention of all his friends with the query, “Are you gay?”
“Everyone starts laughing, but I usually say, ‘Ask your dad!'” I had to leave the club after doing it once. I don’t mind if females inquire, and I’m OK with having girlfriends.”
One specific encounter he had was being accosted by some local builders. “I had a run-in with a few builders who were working near me,” he said. When I replied that I was the man from Shameless, they began to yell, “The gay one, the gay one.”
“They were all from Liverpool and they were making fun of me.” I considered going back to sort things out, but changed my mind.
Fans saw Ciaran’s character, Damon, break the marriage of Tina O’Brien’s character, Sarah Platt, and Sam Robertson’s character, Adam Barlow, in 2022 when he had an affair with Sarah and got her pregnant. When Ciaran made his comeback on television last week, Adam was being kept captive by his character.
