Emmerdale spoilers: Traumatised Charity Dingle injured amid flashback to violent death

Charity’s struggle continued (Picture: ITV)

Emmerdale’s Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) is having difficulties right now. She shot the villainous Damon “Harry” Harris (Robert Beck) in order to rescue Mackenzie (Lawrence Robb), and ever since then, she has been struggling with the guilt of having killed someone.

Charity is dealing with the psychological fallout from the shooting, but the police are certain that it was an accident, so she won’t face any legal repercussions. She can’t handle being by herself and turns on the radio as soon as she’s by herself. She also becomes jittery and agitated.

In the episode airing on Monday, August 8, she also had a revisitation of past traumas when her recently found grandson Oscar (Harley Hamilton) brought up the issue of Ryan’s father, Mark Bails (Rocky Marshall).

When Charity was only 14 years old, Bails raped and mistreated her for months. She was expecting Ryan by the time she was able to flee.

She obviously didn’t want to share this aspect of her family’s past with Oscar; in fact, she didn’t want to think about Bails at all. She told Mackenzie that no matter how much she believed she would be able to move on from discussing Bails’s death last year, something new would always come up.

Mackenzie gave her some sound counsel for once, telling her to “keep it simple.” Certain things are best kept silent.

Boy Oscar is very intelligent. Charity would only tell him that Bails was “not a nice man,” without going into more detail. However, Oscar did the arithmetic and figured out part of what had occurred when he questioned her age and she informed him that she was about to become 48. With tact, he only expressed his gratitude that Ryan’s father was no longer with them.

Afterwards, Charity found herself at home alone herself once again after Mackenzie left to meet Aaron (Danny Miller). Mackenzie seemed to be coping with his own trauma by always being on the go and engaging in illegal activity with Aaron.

Fortunately, Noah (Jack Downham) returned, giving Charity some company, but as he sat down to play a game on his Playstation, gunshots erupted throughout the space.

And Charity, who had been doing the dishes, had a flashback to the time in which the pistol went off and she was face to face with Harry.

Charity, who normally wears marigolds during stressful situations, was wearing them when she realized, in a panic, that she had cut herself on something and was bleeding.

Since the terrible trauma that Bails imposed on her, Charity has had to learn to cope with things on her own, thus that is her default setting. That obviously isn’t working for her right now. Will she be able to ask for assistance?
