As soon as Evelyn Plummer (Maureen Lipman) confronts Cassie (Claire Sweeney) about how she’s taking care of Ruby (Billie Naylor), her stress levels rise once again on Coronation Street.
Tyrone (Alan Halsall) is travelling to Italy with Fiz (Jennie McAlpine), therefore Cassie and Evelyn have been entrusted with watching Ruby and Hope (Isabella Flanagan) for a period of two weeks.
Tyrone tells Evelyn about his vacation plans and claims he needs her assistance since he wouldn’t dare leave the children with Cassie for two weeks. Afterwards, Roy (David Neilson) tells Nina (Mollie Gallagher) that she is free to return to her former bedroom and that he will speak with Evelyn about her departure.
With Tyrone gone, it seems like Evelyn is going to have a rough few weeks as Cassie offers Ruby snacks for breakfast after doing nail extensions on her nails in violation of school policy.
After taking a call from the school, Evelyn tells Cassie she’s nothing more than a nuisance to the girls and rips off a strip.
Can they, however, come to an understanding and cooperate while Ty is away?
Despite Cassie’s ongoing troubles, Claire Sweeney has said that she will make every effort to keep her current little family together over the next weeks, no matter what obstacles she confronts.
“I believe Cassie’s favourite activity is simply being a part of this family, sitting on the couch while the kids are getting ready for school and Tyrone is getting ready for himself.” She just has that need. And losing it is what she fears most.
She strives to perform good deeds, like bringing her mother and Roy together or taking Roy on a pleasure trip to deliver the gift to Evelyn. Everything gets off to a nice start before going south.
“She will stop at nothing to preserve that family structure when things go wrong, believing she will lose it.”
