In forthcoming Coronation Street episodes, the Winter/Brown family will finally get an explanation for Joseph Brown’s (William Flanagan) persistent illness, which will ease them.
Joseph has been complaining of symptoms for a few months now, which would indicate he has a common cold. Although Joseph spent some time at home initially, Chesney and Gemma are now unsure of whether Joseph is really ill or whether he is only attempting to take an extra day off from school.
The next week, same issue arises when Joseph reports having a fever. While Gemma (Dolly-Rose Campbell) is worried, Chesney insists he’s okay.
Gemma visits Paul (Peter Ash) and expresses her concerns; nevertheless, her brother warns her not to speak since doing so may jeopardize the issue with social services.
Chesney discovers that the refrigerator is broken and that all the food has gone bad later in the week when Joseph gags on his milk. He tells Gemma he’s merely had a bad stomach belly as he comes out of Number 5.
Doctor Gaddas, who is intrigued, overhears the discussion.
When Gemma returns to Number 5 and discovers the business card of a family solicitor, she becomes enraged and accuses Ches of hating her children.
Gemma rushes off after the recently returned Linda (Jacqueline Leanord) admits it was her idea to call the solicitor because she doesn’t believe it’s safe for her to be around her own kids.
Chesney is called by the school and has to go get an ailing Joseph.
He tries to rise up while Ches and Linda care over him, but his legs give way.
Then Joseph passes out on the couch and hardly wakes up.
After speaking with Doctor Gaddas, a doctor arrives and informs that they believe Joseph has Lyme disease, which he may have picked up while camping. A terrified Ches then gives Linda the order to call for an ambulance.
