EXCLUSIVE: Damon Hay of Coronation Street is attempting to change his ways and leave his previous life of crime behind.
Fans of Coronation Street witnessed Damon Hay (Ciaran Griffiths) descending into a life of crime last year, to the point that he drove his own son out of Weatherfield. When he became deeply in love with Tina O’Brien’s character, Sarah Barlow, everything appeared to halt.
But when her husband Adam Barlow (Sam Robertson) discovered they were having an affair, he had Damon leave. Damon reappeared just as Adam and Sarah seemed to be reestablishing their marriage.
But has he really given up his life of crime? In an interview with Express.co.uk and other media outlets, soap opera actor Ciaran Griffiths discussed his potential outcomes with Damon.
It would be fascinating to watch how that one turns out, he said. Finding out whether he will continue to behave well or cave in to the temptations of his past is another intriguing question.
“He goes to meet his half-brother Harvey Gaskell (Will Mellor), whom he hasn’t seen in years. Damon had Harvey beaten up in jail the last time he was on the streets, so it will be interesting to see whether he becomes entangled in Harvey’s criminal life.
Harvey is attempting to use blackmail to coerce Damon into doing favors, but Damon says he no longer wants to since he has changed.
“It’s time to call it quits, Adam says. You do you, and I’ll do me. See you later.” However, Harvey isn’t that easy to deal with; whether he’s inside or not, he has some influence.
As they spend the night together, Damon and Sarah seem to have reignited their relationship, according to official spoilers for the ITV soap opera.
Adam becomes enraged and confronts Sarah, letting her know that he doesn’t want him around their kid Harry, when he sees them.
But when she tells him he’s not Adam’s real son, he becomes enraged and resolves to resolve the issue on his own.
Adam schedules a meeting with Harvey in prison, claiming to have reviewed his papers and believing he has a strong case to submit an appeal in an attempt to have Harvey released from jail.
Harvey, however, warns Adam that if he lets him down, the hitman who takes care of Damon would take care of him as well, so his arrangement with him might be risky.
Even though Damon and Harvey are half brothers, their connection is really convoluted, so there’s no love lost there.
Ciaran went on to discuss their relationship, saying, “It’s intense, they don’t like each other.”
“They had different fathers, and I believe that growing up, Damon was somewhat neglected and always the one to get a clip around the ear.
“Despite the fact that they are half brothers, I believe they are both harboring a great deal of animosity toward one another.”
