Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) took a major gamble last year when he slept with Emma Harding (Patsy Kensit) just days before his wedding to Kat Slater (Jessie Wallace), and that choice is poised to come back and haunt him in forthcoming EastEnders scenes.

Kat has adapted well to married life and has been blissfully ignorant of Phil’s infidelity. So much so that in later scenes, she and Phil are going to have a combined birthday karaoke party.

But before the festivities start, Phil and the other Mitchells have to deal with Aunt Sal’s burial, which is a somber affair. Before long, however, family politics start to spoil the wake.

Sam Mitchell (Kim Medcalf) finds out that Aunt Sal has given her and her brothers £100,000, and she wants her part from Phil, but he won’t give it to her.

Later on, Sam strikes up a conversation with Shane Richie’s envious Alfie Moon, who divulges Phil’s adultery with Emma. Sam knows right away that she has some power now, so she doesn’t hesitate to go over and threaten Phil to take her inheritance.

But Phil isn’t one to back down, and even when Sam threatens to divulge his secret, he doesn’t move.

Later, Kat sees Phil plotting across the Square with Ben Mitchell (Max Bowden), and she becomes suspicious of their possible plans, even though she confronts Ben and finds out nothing.

After speaking with his son, Phil eventually gives in to Sam’s demands and agrees to give Sam the money.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t satisfy the disillusioned Sam.

While Phil and Kat are having a heartfelt conversation about recent events, Sam steps up to the mic—and no, this isn’t a drunken karaoke session. Sam puts an end to Phil and Kat’s moment of bliss.

Planning Kat is shocked when Sam tells the whole bar about Phil’s dark secret.

However, Sam quickly experiences disdain for her performance, so it’s not only Phil who must deal with the fallout from his deeds.

Despite her support from son Ricky Mitchell (Frankie Day), Jack Branning (Scott Maslen) eventually gives her the order to depart. Is she going to pay attention?
