EastEnders spoilers: Phil Mitchell dissolves into tears as unexpected guest arrives at funeral

The family say goodbye to Aunt Sal (Picture: BBC)

This coming week on EastEnders, Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) will be attending the burial of a dear family member, which will leave him feeling quite upset.

The Mitchells and Phil will get together to bid farewell to Aunt Sal, the sister of Peggy (Barbara Windsor). The actress Anna Karen passed away in a home fire in February of last year, and the sequences are broadcast in her memory.

While Phil keeps his feelings to himself, Kat (Jessie Wallace) worries ahead of the burial, and Alfie (Shane Richie) chooses to go at her own speed.

After Sam instructs Billy (Perry Fenwick) and Ben (Max Bowden) to come, Phil isn’t persuaded by her newfound fascination with all things family-related.

Sal’s spouse Harold makes a rare appearance at the church and gives a eulogy that brings everyone, including Phil, to tears.

Later, during the wake, Sam is horrified to learn from Harold that Aunt Sal left her, Phil, and Grant (Ross Kemp) £100,000; Harold then insists that Phil give over the money, but Phil refuses.

Sam returns to Peggy’s in an attempt to blackmail Phil for the inheritance money after an envious Alfie later confesses that Phil had an affair with Emma (Patsy Kensit).

‘It’s quite a combination of grief and humour’, Kim Medcalf remarked, outlining what to anticipate from the funeral.

We get to meet Aunt Sal’s wonderful husband Harold, and the celebration is delightful. He delivers a really poignant statement about his spouse. It’s sentimental. It seems like there is a little piece of Peggy in that room as well since Aunt Sal was adored, particularly by Peggy.

She clarified, “Harold makes a casual remark about Aunt Sal leaving her, Phil, and Grant an inheritance of £100,000.”

She can’t contain her excitement for even a minute, so in typical Sam fashion, she rushes up to Phil and demands, “When were you going to give me this money or even tell me about it?” I framed it such that Sam is working for free at Peggy’s in order to pay off that obligation.

“So she believes, “you are not the owner of me”. “You can’t just leave me out of that equation; you give me the money and we’ll decide.” Sam and Phil have a relationship in which Phil has always been the bully.
