Following Joseph Brown’s (William Flanagan) diagnosis, Gemma Winter (Dolly-Rose Campbell) broke the terrible news to Chesney Brown (Sam Aston) in recent scenes from Coronation Street.

Following his collapse in a recent scenario, Joseph was taken to the hospital by ambulance, where medical professionals feared he had Lyme disease.

Doctors verified the diagnosis on Friday’s (January 19) incident, stating that Joseph will fully recover after spending a few more days in the hospital.

Gemma met with the social worker after returning home to get some items for Joseph. She brought up Joseph’s diagnosis, emphasising that it demonstrated that she hadn’t purposefully made him ill to show he was ill, but rather that there was a legitimate issue.

Gemma was allowed to return home, which is fortunate, but Joseph wasn’t as happy about this as they had anticipated.

Gemma coming back home would force Joseph to make the decision to move out of his house, but he was quick to say he didn’t want to live with Chesney any longer since he didn’t think he was sick.

After Gemma assured Chesney that she would speak with Joseph, the distraught father returned home.

When Gemma and her stepson were alone themselves, she spoke about how her experience growing up without a father wasn’t pleasant and that she didn’t want Joseph to go through the same thing.

She eventually succeeded in persuading Joseph to accompany her and Chesney home, but there was a tragic miscommunication when she broke the news to him.

After their argument the day before, Chesney was relieved that Gemma was willing to give him another opportunity, but Gemma quickly dashed his expectations by admitting that she hadn’t even really forgiven him.

She was quite clear that one of the kids would be sleeping on the couch and that she was simply coming back in for their sake.

She said that she still loved him when Chesney asked, but she wasn’t sure whether there was a way to get over the pain she had sustained from him.

Will Gemma and Chesney ever repair what they once had?
