After learning she had breast cancer, Chas Dingle (Lucy Pargeter) feels as if she is carrying the weight of the whole world on her shoulders. But as she hasn’t informed anybody yet, the weight gets to be too much, and she chooses to leave Emmerdale.
After using the big C-word, Chas is breaking down and acting as if nothing had occurred—only Liam (Jonny McPherson) and Lydia (Karen Blick) are aware of what has transpired. Wearing his GP hat in an effort to reach her, Liam is worried that she won’t inform anybody.
She needs all the help in the world right now, and Liam believes that what she’s doing is a catastrophic mistake.
Chas feels like everything is happening to her at a hundred miles per hour rather than that she is burying her head in the sand.
Liam senses this and attempts to gently assist her in seeing the advantages of informing her family. His tenacity causes stoic Chas to change her mind and recognise that maybe she does need their help and that she doesn’t always need to be tough.
As the family gathers at the bar, Chas delivers the terrible news to them, leaving everyone in shock. Danny Miller’s character Aaron is there and listening in, but when Chas learns that Aaron merely wants to get up and go, she is devastated. That cold heart won’t even melt upon hearing that his mother is fighting for her life.
Aaron is harshly criticised by Mack (Lawrence Robb) for choosing to walk, but Aaron is just irritated by Mack’s persistence. It’s impossible to get through that thick head.
Paddy (Dominic Brunt) and Chas now have the unimaginable next step to cope with — informing Eve. They carefully consider when to explain what’s happening and do their best.
Together, Cain and Chas discuss their life and all they have experienced.
Chas is forced to make a major choice, deciding that leaving would be the wisest course of action. When Chas says he wants to take Eve on a vacation without him, Paddy is devastated.
