Fans of EastEnders remember Toby-Alexander Smith best as the nasty serial murderer Grey Atkins, but he has completely changed for his new role.
Toby is slated to play Mr. Bingley in the upcoming An American in Austen, a reimagining of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice.
Nearly two years after leaving EastEnders, the actor used Instagram to promote his new project.
His portrayal of Mr. Bingley in the photos makes him seem quite different from the villainous Grey, who was a part of some of the most significant plotlines in EastEnders.
The terrible cruelty that wicked Grey inflicted on his wife Chantelle Atkins, which sadly resulted in her death in 2020, appalled fans.
Before admitting confession to his crimes and being sentenced to jail in 2022, he went on to murder Tina Carter and Kush Kazemi and attempt the life of countless more people.
The actor’s admirers are excited to see him in this new role; one said, “Eeek!” Mr. Bingley, you are very beloved! Hurray! Congratulations! I’m eager!
Some expressed admiration for his new appearance, writing: “Wow, you really look good.”
Another person commented, “It fits you,” while Lorraine Stanley, a previous co-star of EastEnders who will soon return to the show as Karen Taylor, said, “I’m looking forward to it!!” You have a nice appearance.
Amy Walsh, Toby’s spouse and Emmerdale actress Tracy Metcalfe, also expressed her support by uploading the images on her account along with the note, “Proud wife alert.”
In front of their friends and family in September, Toby and Amy exchanged vows in a breathtaking ceremony.
The casts of Emmerdale, Olivia Bromley (Dawn Taylor), Louisa Clein (Maya Stepney), and Natalie Ann Jamieson (Amy Wyatt) were there, along with Shona McGarty (Whitney Dean) from EastEnders, who worked closely with Toby in his last moments on the BBC One soap opera.
Bonnie, the couple’s daughter, was born in 2022.
The Hallmark channel will show An American in Austen on February 17.
