On Monday, January 29, at Coronation Street, Aggie Bailey (Lorna Laidlaw) received some heartbreaking news regarding her husband Ed (Trevor Michael Georges).
When Michael (Ryan Russell) discovered the builder’s yard was on fire last week, he found himself in grave peril. He raced in to help dad Ed, thinking he was inside, only to find himself trapped as the flames spread.
Following the incident, a dubious Craig (Colson Smith) questioned if a shady insurance claim was the cause of the fire. He said that Ed could have taken the insurance job in an attempt to pay off his debts since he was aware of his battle with gambling addiction.
In tonight’s episode of the ITV soap opera, Ed was questioned about the hypothesis by the police. He persisted in insisting he wasn’t the one who started the fire, but Michael was appalled to learn his father was the subject of an investigation.
A terrified and distraught Michael yelled at Ed, telling him that given how much he had lied about in the previous several months, there was a good likelihood he intentionally started the fire.
Although Dee-Dee (Channique Sterling-Brown) attempted to stand up for her father, Michael believed that his father was to blame for anything that sent him to the hospital.
Michael was alone himself that night as Dee-Dee and Ed spoke at the café.
He called Aggie and started crying, telling her there was something he needed to tell her.
Ed was devastated to learn that Michael had revealed everything to Aggie, who was visiting her sister’s home away from Weatherfield at the time, when he got back.
Ed was certain that his wife “had washed her hands of him,” thus he had no need to keep the truth about the fire from Dee-Dee.
Ed said that, although not starting the fire as part of an insurance claim, he had wanted something terrible to occur in order to get rid of his financial issues and all the emotions he was going through at the time.
Dee-Dee got up and walked away, disgusted, leaving Ed by himself.
