Emmerdale spoilers: Chas’ devastating regret as she speaks to late mum Faith in heartbreaking moment

In Monday’s (January 29) episode of Emmerdale, Chas Dingle (Lucy Pargeter) was very focused on processing the news that she had breast cancer last week.

To determine if the kind of cancer she has is inherited, she also underwent a genetic test. She told Liam Cavanagh (Jonny McPherson) about her concerns that it may be even though she hasn’t received the findings yet.

In 2022, Faith Dingle (Sally Dexter), her mother, passed away from breast cancer. Although Faith had assured Moira (Natalie J. Robb) that it wasn’t genetic, Chas was now concerned that Faith could have lied since her mother’s aunt Flossie had passed away at a young age. Is it possible that both types of breast cancer caused that?

Chas was concerned about what would happen to her brothers Cain (Jeff Hordley) and Caleb (William Ash) if there was a genetic connection. Were they in danger? Would testing be necessary for them?

Liam did his best to be comforting, but this was all a hard to handle. He strongly advised Chas to inform her family about her illness, but he also advised her to try not to worry too much about the genetic test until she received the results. She needed as much assistance as possible.

Chas really wanted to speak with Faith, one of the family members. Chas bemoaned that Faith didn’t have a headstone she could visit as she visited her daughter Grace’s burial with a teddy bear.

“Mother, I wish I hadn’t shot you up there in that fireworks,” she said. “I would have somewhere to go to ask you all these questions if you were at least six feet under.”

In order to give Faith the type of spectacular farewell that would reflect her personality, her ashes were turned into a firework when she passed away.

But when the time came, Chas’s romance with Michael Wildman’s character Al Chapman and her betrayal of Dominic Brunt’s character Paddy caused such a breach between her and the rest of the family that Chas grabbed the firework and set it off herself, right there beside Grace’s grave.

She tried to connect with Faith by speaking out into the air at this point. She informed her that, similar to Faith, she had to conceal her illness from her family, but that she had never needed them more. But I’m not you, she said in closing. I’m unable to live a lie. Nor should they have to.

Soon after, she discovered Charity (Emma Atkins), Mackenzie (Lawrence Robb), Cain, Moira, Caleb, Ruby (Beth Cordingly), Liam, and Aaron (Danny Miller) at the Woolpack, which gave her the opportunity to inform the family. Liam gently pushed her to tell them what was happening.

“For weeks, I have been lying to all of you.” I’m not feeling good. I have cancer. Like my mother, I have cancer.

Everyone was taken aback. Although Chas argued she would get the same care on the NHS, Caleb instantly offered to pay for her to have private treatment. Above all, she emphasised that each day was valuable and that she detested the way Cain and Aaron were hurting one other.

Everyone was waiting for Aaron to answer. He seemed to be making a concerted effort to suppress his feelings, and when he remained silent, Cain called him out for being a coward like his father.

Cain uttered the worst thing he could have: Aaron’s father, Gordon Livesy, was a nasty man who mistreated Aaron and ended his life in jail.

Aaron turned around and left the tavern at Cain’s comments. Chas ran after him, but he escaped capture.

Will Aaron ever be able to provide his mother with the kind of assistance she needs?
