‘Lost it all’: Lucy Fallon confirms sad Coronation Street storyline for Bethany Platt

Bethany Platt (Lucy Fallon) has been rather coy about what transpired in London that led to her return to Weatherfield ever since she arrived back on Coronation Street at the beginning of the year.

Viewers have recently learned that Bethany is struggling financially and that her journalistic career hasn’t been progressing as quickly as she would have wanted. Lucy Fallon informed us that Bethany is quite embarrassed by everything.

“I believe that Bethany is under a lot of pressure because she moved to London to pursue her dreams, succeeded there, and now she’s lost everything,” the woman thought to herself.

“I believe she returned and didn’t plan to stay, but she realised she had to because she doesn’t have any money and has to live for free with her mother.” I believe that she is more embarrassed by it since she wants everyone to think good of her and be proud of her.

“She doesn’t want to burden her family with this too—they’ve been through a lot together over the past few months.”

In a state of desperation, Bethany accepts a gossipy magazine job and chooses to write a piece on the romantic triangle between Daniel (Rob Mallard), Daisy (Charlotte Jordan), and Ryan (Ryan Prescott). Lucy gave an explanation of why her character believes it would make a compelling narrative.

She surmised, “I feel like Bethany’s doing it innocently at first out of pure desperation, but also because she’s so intrigued by all of this to do with Daisy.”

“I do believe that Bethany is somewhat obsessed with the story of Daisy and Daniel, even though Daisy and Bethany are at odds and there’s a lot of stuff coming up where they are at each other.” Though I believe Bethany believes she is completely innocent in her own mind.

Naturally, Bethany was out of town in London when Daisy deceived her then-fiance Daniel Osbourne by having an affair with Ryan Connor. However, she gains a wealth of insider knowledge when she persuades Ryan’s housemate at the time, Lauren (Cait Fitton), to tell her all she knows.

In an effort to persuade Lauren to talk about Daisy, Ryan, and Daniel, Bethany offers to teach her.

Lucy informed us, “She feels bad about using Lauren because she feels like she kind of lured Lauren in and offered to tutor her, but then she got the information out of her.”

“Because Lauren now feels she can open up to her and has someone to talk to, while Bethany has just used her for information, Lauren thinks they are friends, which makes Bethany feel guilty.”

It can’t be good for Daisy and Daniel’s private life to be exposed in the magazine, as Lucy foresaw “a heated row.”

According to Bethany, “Daniel is acting like a bit of a snob because she writes for Chit Chat magazine, but he thought she was writing for a fancy magazine,” which makes her defensive.

It goes without saying that he will be furious with her—and rightfully so, in my opinion—when he discovers what she wrote and how she utilised Ryan, Daisy, and him in their narrative.

“Bethany does have a few defences for the article, but we’ll just have to wait and see!”
