Coronation Street’s Sue Nicholls says there was ‘no question’ about returning to ITV show

As she approaches 45 years on Coronation Street, Sue Nicholls discussed her future on the cobbles.

Sue Nicholls gained notoriety for her role as Audrey Roberts in the popular soap opera. She debuted on the popular ITV soap in 1979 and is currently one of the cast members with the longest tenure on Corrie.

But the celebrity started out as a guest star who only occasionally appeared in Weatherfield. She also disclosed that it was only supposed to last a week.

She mentioned that she is getting close to 45 years old in the character during her appearance on ITV’s This Morning earlier this week. “I was asked to come for a week, and shortly after that, I was asked to return,” the woman continued. I’d had so much fun during the first week that there was no way I could say no thank you.”

Sue expressed her love and joy for Helen Worth MBE, who portrays her daughter Gail, saying, “I love doing scenes with her. I love her to death.” We don’t fight on television; instead, it’s a real family conflict that occurs in real life.”

Sue talked candidly about her plans for the cobbles. “Coronation Street is now my life,” she continued. I enjoy working with the folks here, and I find coming here to be easy. I enjoy the work they assign me, and I hope it continues.”

The salon owner made her TV debut in 1985 during daughter Gail Platt’s engagement party to Brian Tilsley. She then became a regular member of the cast. Since then, she has grown to be a mainstay of the show, appearing in well-known plots like her tumultuous romance with the con artist Lewis Archer.

Audrey continues to be a crucial character in Corrie. After Stephen Reid’s reign of terror, she was lately at the center of one of the most dramatic storylines on the show. Audrey found it difficult to accept that her on-screen son was a psychotic serial killer.

Thankfully, Sue’s life is not as chaotic off TV as it is when she is on it. In 1964, the actress made her television debut as waitress Marilyn Gates in the soap opera Crossroads. She went on to become successful as a singer from the show.

Sue has acquired a large social circle on the ITV soap opera. In an interview with This Morning, she paid respect to the late John Savident, who portrayed Fred Elliott, and talked about her past on-screen romances. Sue stated: “He was lovely, and it’s sad news recently of him leaving us.”
