The time for Angelica’s (Rebecca Bakes) hearing has come during the ITV soap opera on Wednesday. After inadvertently killing Heath Hope (Sebastian Dowling) on New Year’s Eve, the adolescent was facing a jail term.
On Wednesday night, Emmerdale viewers were incensed when Rebecca Bakes’ character, Angelica King, bid the Dales farewell for the last time after fifteen years. During Angelica’s court appearance, it was revealed that she could receive a jail term for unintentionally killing Heath Hope (Sebastian Dowling) on New Year’s Eve.
The judge affirmed that given the seriousness of the offense, Angelica had “no alternative” but to get a jail sentence—one that would be drastically lowered because of her guilty plea and earlier admissions. She was given an eight-month term to spend in a safe children’s home in Bristol, four hours away from the community.
Social media users were quick to express their shock at the brief statement, with one user writing: “What a load of S***e….8 months? Eight freaking months? “The laws are an a**.” Several more agreed, stating things like “A secure children’s home for 8 months for death by dangerous driving.” (sic)
“8 f***ing months, is that all?” inquired another admirer. One predicted: “8 MONTHS Bl***y ridiculous… back in time for Christmas.. recast probably.” Another said, “bl***y ridiculous.” (sic)
Speaking in agreement, a fifth individual said, “8 months for causing someone else’s death, what a joke.” (sic)
Given that Cathy Hope (Gabrielle Dowling) was the one who took the car in the first place, some people questioned why she hadn’t been prosecuted.
“Really don’t understand why Angelica is getting the worst of the punishment when Cathy stole the car in the first place,” someone commented. Angelica would never have drove it if she hadn’t stolen it.”
“It’s such a load of nonsense that Cathy has gotten away with her part in this,” exclaimed an irate other. The majority was her fault.”
A third individual said, “So what about Cathy? She took off in the automobile. She would undoubtedly be in court for something. The writers of #Emmerdale are unable to recall what they written a few weeks prior.” (sic)
Nicola (Nicola Wheeler) and Jimmy (Nick Miles), Angel’s parents, were shocked to learn of their daughter’s sentence when they got home.
Jimmy said, “I’ll make you a drink,” to which Nicola said, “No, I don’t want anything.”
The mother began to cry as she took up her daughter’s teddy bear. Jimmy made an effort to comfort her, saying, “We can overcome this.”
