Beth Cordingly reveals advice her real-life soap legend partner gave her for Emmerdale role

When Beth Cordingly joined Emmerdale earlier this year as Ruby Fox-Milligan, she wasn’t completely unfamiliar with the soap opera industry. She has known her boyfriend Ian Kelsey for twenty years; he played Dave Glover in Emmerdale from 1994 to 1996.

Dave’s romance with Kim Tate (Claire King), who was married to Frank Tate (Norman Bowler), was one of his most prominent plots.

After leaving the Dales, Ian appeared in Coronation Street as the villain Vinny Ashford and served as Howard Bellamy’s practice manager for three years in Doctors.

Beth, who had appeared in EastEnders and The Bill before joining Emmerdale, has spoken about how encouraging Ian was to her when she got the part of Ruby.

He understands well that being an actor means you are always away from home. He is well-versed with the crew and cast, so it’s a pleasure to be able to tell him about my recent activities and know he will relate.

“That’s crucial when you’re away, and he always wants to know how each day of filming is going.”

After giving herself some time to get used to her new role, Beth spoke with Metro.co.uk recently about how things are going at Emmerdale.

“Wow,” she said. “Everyone talks about how friendly Emmerdale is, but it’s really not.” It’s a very nice workplace; it’s breathtaking. I feel so at home here. Like a well-oiled machine, it operates. It’s a great place to work since you can simply walk in and the atmosphere is positive all the time. It’s very enjoyable for me.

She also showered admiration on Lewis Cope and William Ash, who portray Nicky and Caleb in the soap opera, her “family.”

They are both exquisitely beautiful, charming, and talented performers. People always saying, “You’re so lucky to work with Will Ash,” irritates me a little bit because I am very fortunate to work with Will Ash.

Beth informed us that she had a great time portraying Ruby and that she was intelligent. She is insane! I usually like playing someone a little crazy.

When Beth asked Ian whether he had given her any advise on how to succeed since she was joining the programme, he replied with one very clear and helpful piece of advice:

“I usually bump into the furniture, and he told me not to do that!”
