Famous for playing Jacob Hay in Coronation Street, Jack James Ryan has scored a major new role in the comedy-thriller Passenger on ITV. His fellow Corrie cast members were eager to congratulate him on social media following the major career shift.
From 2021 until 2023, Jack portrayed Jacob, a former drug dealer who changed his ways and began dating Amy Barlow. He currently plays John Trowbridge in the television series Passenger, which is about a tight-knit community that is rocked by bizarre crimes.
Jack’s persona John is a bread factory worker who has trouble controlling his drinking and his blunders. On social media, his Coronation Street co-stars expressed their excitement.
“WHO’S READY?!” The actress who plays Summer Spellman, Harriet Bibby, wrote with a series of raised hands emojis. “Can’t wait for this Jack!!” was written by Tony Maudsley, who plays George Shuttleworth.
The series was also advertised by Elle Mulvaney, who plays Amy Barlow, on Twitter: “Passenger with our @JackJamesRyan on ITV1 and ITVX! [Popcorn emoji].”
With 13,500 followers, Jack himself launched the series on his X account, wishing them a warm welcome and announcing that “#Passenger is coming to a telly screen near you very, very soon.” (sic)
“I can’t express how thrilled I am to share this with you,” he continued. Happy to return to the box. Surrounded on this one by some genuinely incredible talent. Who’s paying attention?”
Jack provided some information regarding the program, saying, “It’s not set in a certain year; rather, the aesthetic has been purposefully heightened and stylized to support our storyline in both literal and metaphorical senses.
Imagine the ideas and look of Stranger Things blended with the northern gritty charm of Happy Valley. Genres are being played with.”
Prior to making his on-the-cobbles debut, Jack had already acted in a number of TV series and movies, such as the 2019 movie Military Wives, episodes of Doctors and Casualty, and even a rival soap opera Emmerdale in which he played Tyler.
Jack cheekily admitted that a big Disney star was his first TV crush in an interview with The Express. Hilary Duff, who portrayed Lizzie McGuire on the Disney Channel, he remarked. I was blown away by girls like her and Raven-Symone. They performed, danced, and sang. They were otherworldly.”
Jack, nevertheless, thinks Naked Attraction on Channel 4 is “crazy” and would prefer to see it cease. “If it’s on in the background, it hooks you in,” Jack said in response to a question on which show he would “put out of its misery.”
The celebrity nevertheless enjoys daytime television, especially Bargain Hunt. He disclosed: “Antiques have always piqued my attention. I would have been an antique trader if I hadn’t been an actor. One thing on my bucket list is to compete on Bargain Hunt. Could you swing it my way?
