Despite Dean Wicks’ potential collapse, fans of EastEnders are certain they know exactly when and how Shirley Carter will return to the BBC soap opera following a 15-month hiatus.
If a recent notion is true, viewers’ fave Shirley Carter may be returning to EastEnders.
Actress Linda Henry’s character left Walford in December 2022 following the apparent death of her son, Danny Dyer’s Mick Carter. Shirley hasn’t appeared on screen since, although being mentioned multiple times.
After months of Mick’s wife Linda Carter learning that her rapist son Dean Wicks was back in communication with his mother, her mother-in-law Shirley, her son Dean Wicks made an unexpected comeback last autumn. She was heartbroken by the news and was shocked when Dean appeared in Walford and began stirring trouble last year.
In several moments from the previous year, Dean stated that Shirley was having a breakdown and was in deep mourning over Mick. Linda was left stunned when he told his mother he wasn’t a rapist and said he was come to get her back.
Dean didn’t provide all the information about Shirley at the moment, but he did say that she was in need of assistance and that’s why she had stayed away and hadn’t gotten in touch. Shirley has not appeared on screen since, at the time, viewers were not persuaded.
However, after an unexpected ending involving Shirley’s friend Jean Slater, viewers now believe Shirley will eventually make a comeback and knock Dean to his knees. Viewers have recently seen Dean interfere with his daughter Jade’s medicine after her lung transplant in an attempt to keep her close to him.
Jade was supposed to move to Pakistan to live with her mother Shabnam Masood after receiving a cystic fibrosis diagnosis as a child, but she has been sick lately and even passed out. After learning about Dean’s plans, Jean attempted to assist Jade before going up against Dean.
When she questioned why he had lied about Jade missing her meds, Dean turned on her and said he was defending Jean. He implied that he had attempted to correct Jean’s error after it was she—not him—who had been cutting back on the number of tablets Jade was given.
As Jade entered, she heard Dean accuse Jean of improperly organising her medication. When Jean objected to Dean’s “twisting” of the facts, he said he would call the police and let them make the final decision. He also inquired as to whether Jean was experiencing a bipolar episode.
When Jean discovered pill casings in her luggage, she began to doubt reality. After conferring with her partner Harvey, she made the decision to temporarily leave Walford and then sent Dean a cold stare.
Viewers now believe Shirley will soon return and that Jean has gone looking for her in order to expose Dean and finally get rid of him. One admirer asked on social media, “I wonder if Jean Slater will call Shirley Carter instead of calling Shabnam to come and sort Dean out.”
Has she gone to get Shirley? asked a different viewer. A third said: “Jeans went to get Shirley. Hope he hasn’t got in her head.” “I just want Shirley to come back and finish off drowning Dean,” wrote a fourth admirer on social media.
