Emmerdale star Michelle Hardwick has shared a sweet message in support of her wife, Kate Brooks, who is set to take over as the new Coronation Street boss in April.

The Vanessa Woodfield actress took to Instagram to share the exciting news with her 128k followers, and reveal how proud she is of the former Emmerdale producer.

‘PROUD WIFE ALERT,’ she began, with a love heart emoji. ‘So the news is out that my beautiful, talented wife is swapping the Dales for the Cobbles to take on the role of Coronation Street Series Producer. I know everyone at Emmerdale will miss her smiley face and fabulous story brain. To all my friends at Coronation Street, you’re very lucky, you’ve got a good one there.

Kate, good luck! Teddy, Betty, and I all adore you and are really proud of you.

Michelle’s Emmerdale co-stars showered the page with encouraging comments. Karen Blick, who plays Lydia Dingle, wrote: “Well done Kate, the Cobbles are very lucky, you’ll be missed in the Dales.”

The actress who plays Ruby Miligan, Beth Cordingly, said, “Awww.” What a lovely post. We’re all utterly devastated. But really (reluctantly) glad for you both, as well as for amazing KB. Take care of her on Coronation Street. You’re not even aware of your luck.

“And she’ll kill it too; they’re so fortunate to have her,” Actor Ash Palmisciano, who plays Matty Barton, authored the screenplay, and Mack Boyd’s actor Lawrence Robb wrote, “Go Kate!!!”

Teddy and Betty are the children of Michelle and Kate, who were wed in 2019.

Together with Laura Shaw and former Executive Producer Jane Hudson, Kate was in charge of creating award-winning storylines while she was employed at Emmerdale.

The storylines around Paddy Kirk’s (Dominic Brunt) mental health and Chas Dingle’s (Lucy Pargeter) breast cancer have both been produced by Kate in recent months.

“I’ve had a wonderful time working on Emmerdale and I feel immensely proud to be part of a team that has achieved such great success over the past eight years,” Kate said, talking about her new post. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time on the programme, and I have had the honour of working with a group of incredibly brilliant, diligent, and lovely people.

Emmerdale has given me so much more than I could have ever anticipated, both emotionally and professionally, and I will always be grateful for that. Thank you, Emmerdale; it has been a true joy.

She continued, saying, “To be asked to produce a show I’ve revered for such a long time is the ultimate ‘pinch me’ moment.” Corrie has brightened my living room since I was a child. From over the Pennines, I have loved the show and have always been amazed by the talent that is on show, both on and off screen.

“I sincerely hope to take great care to ensure that it flourishes as we move into the next chapter. It is a truly special show.” I’ve always been a part of Coronation Street and I can’t wait to get right in.
