In Emmerdale, William Ash’s character Caleb Milligan and Beth Cordingly’s character Ruby Fox-Miligan have a complicated relationship. They have a strong, enduring love that has lasted since they were very young, but it’s become apparent that they have experienced many difficult times together in the past.

Everyone in the hamlet was encouraged to believe that Caleb’s marriage was finished when he first moved there, and he quickly started dating Leyla Harding (Roxy Shahidi) and Tracy Robinson (Amy Walsh).

All of that changed the moment Ruby arrived on Emmerdale. She didn’t care who she damaged along the way; her goal was to regain her position in his life.

Once Ruby revealed their affair during a family wedding, Tracy and Nate (Jurell Carter) were mortified. The full impact of Ruby’s caustic tongue and, in Cain Dingle’s (Jeff Hordley) case, her knee has been felt by other family members.

Ruby’s deep-seated uneasiness stems from her perception that the Dingles are vying for Caleb’s affection. Ruby just showed us how much she sacrificed for Caleb, putting her own family last so she could be with him.

She finds it incomprehensible that he won’t reciprocate. At last, it appeared that Caleb understood this, and he consented to leave the village and dedicate himself to Ruby.

But in later episodes, Caleb had second thoughts about leaving the Dales after realizing what he would be losing from a talk with his sister Chas (Lucy Pargeter).

In the Woolpack, he is warmly welcomed back into the Dingle family. However, things rapidly take a bad turn when Ruby shows up seeking for a fight.

She quickly finds herself at odds with Caleb’s family, the Dingles, after a heated dispute breaks out, during which Ruby inadvertently elbows Chas in the chest.

Naturally, Chas had a double mastectomy not so long ago, and the blow causes her anguish to double. Ruby is heartbroken about what she did, but she is much more heartbroken when Caleb openly rejects her and sides with the Dingles against her.

Ruby has been banished from the family and is left alone and distraught as she sits outside the Woolpack, while Caleb is furious with her for her most recent deed.

Is Ruby able to persuade Caleb that she accidentally injured Chas? Or is this the last straw that breaks their bond?
