After a violent fight in which Jai Sharma threw his father Amit down the stairs, viewers of Emmerdale were left wondering whether Jai Sharma had murdered his father.
Anil Goutam’s character Amit Sharma from Emmerdale has departed the show after barely five months. The startling departure was shown in the ITV soap opera’s Friday, March 29 episode. As spectators watched, Jai Sharma (Chris Bisson) exacted vengeance on his father Amit for his brother Rishi’s (Baskher Patel) murder.
Jai learned earlier this week that Rishi had died the previous year as a result of Amit pushing him down the stairs. Jai dealt with his wounded father in a tense encounter that had viewers wondering whether he had murdered him. Fans did, however, witness dramatic moments in which Amit was chained and gagged until Jai made a bargain that allowed him to permanently depart the community without saying goodbye.
Since taking on the role of Jai in 2009, Chris Bisson has been candid about the compelling plot and potential future developments. “Jai has finally learned the truth about Amit, and I believe this has exposed the dark side of him,” he said. Laurel and Suni told him there was nothing to see or hear, so he attempted to repress all of his emotions in the past.
“That Jai should accept his father’s passing, move on, and welcome Amit into his family. That, however, has shown out to be false. We suspected—or Jai suspected—that Amit was the culprit.
According to the soap opera star, Amit “is feeling the wrath of Jai’s pain” and he wants to get “rid of Amit”.
Regarding the abrupt departure of his father on screen, Chris stated: “He wants him out of his life; he doesn’t want him anywhere near him.”
He seeks his legitimate inheritance, which he should have received from Rishi, which is the shares in the HOP.
“The fact that Rishi is no longer with him, means that Jai feels like he needs to avenge his death in some way and hurt Amit in some way.”
According to the soap opera star, Amit “is feeling the wrath of Jai’s pain” and he wants to get “rid of Amit”.

Although Chris said that Jai was “not a murderer deep down,” he is unclear of the depths to which his character may go.
“I think he has been pushed to his limit here and he has let Amit away with his life,” he said.
However, it has altered him inside, and moving ahead, his perspective on relationships, people, and life may change. It’s also likely that his approach to business will change.
“I believe he will get somewhat more cruel. He believes that he was somewhat taken advantage of and that this will never happen to him again. Well, Jai’s return may not be good. And Jai, you know what? I really really enjoy it. Playing with him is enjoyable. He is a nice father with some redeeming traits, so he’s not entirely awful, but we’ve seen him take this turn in the past, so who knows what’s coming.”
