Former Coronation Street star Georgia May Foote has opened up about her character Katy Armstrong being killed off after she left the ITV soap
Georgia May Foote, a former Coronation Street performer, has spoken out about the surprise off-screen conclusion of her character. The actress, who portrayed Katy Armstrong on the programme from 2010 to 2015, answered a question about whether or not she was “disappointed” at Katy’s death off-screen.
When Georgia departed the well-liked ITV soap opera, the show’s writers relocated her to Portugal with her son Joseph Brown, who is presently portrayed by William Flanagan (whose real-life brothers are also well-known soap performers). But in a shocking turn of events, Katy had sadly passed away in a vehicle accident in 2017 and was subsequently discovered during a phone conversation scene with her sister Izzy Armstrong, portrayed by Cherylee Houston.
It was revealed by Izzy that Katy had passed away “instantly” in the collision. Since then, Joseph, Katy’s kid, has gone back to the UK and is now living with his father, Chesney Brown, played by Sam Aston, and stepmother, Gemma Winter, portrayed by Dolly-Rose Campbell.
Georgia’s thoughts over Katy’s untimely passing were recently revealed to fans during an earlier this year Q&A session. According to the Mirror, a fan asked her on Instagram whether she was “disappointed” with the plot that first appeared seven years ago.
“I wouldn’t say disappointed at all,” she retorted. When I leave a job, I’m the kind of person that is eager for the next challenge. I learned so much from Corrie over the course of almost five years, and I will always be appreciative of the show.”
“Would I have gone back if I could have?” the actress said. I will never know, thus I am unable to respond to it. “But the time I had there was a special time in my life,” she also said to her admirers.
Georgia, who had an appearance on Coronation Street in 2010 as Jess Burrows, concluded by stating: “I will always be appreciative of the chance to have portrayed not just one but two parts in the programme. It is recognisable.”
Since her departure, Georgia has appeared in episodes of The Outpost on The CW Network, Doctors on BBC, and Trollied on Sky. Prior to that, from 2005 to 2008, she portrayed Alison Simmons in the beloved film Grange Hill.
After leaving Weatherfield in 2015, Georgia performed on Strictly Come Dancing and made it to the finals with her professional partner Giovanni Pernice. She has since worked as a nail technician.
