Coronation Street star teases ‘tip of the iceberg’ as Leanne Battersby in danger of significant loss

Her trust in ‘The Institute’ – and Rowan Cunliffe – is set to ramp up in the ITV soap

In future scenes on Coronation Street, Leanne Battersby is going to lose a lot of money as her faith in ‘The Institute’ grows. The story began when Jane Danson’s character went with Simon Barlow to one of Rowan Cunliffe’s lectures at the Chariot Square Hotel last month.

When the group mentor came up to Leanne to provide some unsolicited advise on how to handle Simon’s drunk driving and her husband Nick Tilsley’s response, Leanne was shocked. Rowan immediately won Leanne over by encouraging her to open out about her deepest emotions and ideas.

After popping the question on Valentine’s Day, she was later seen putting some of her newfound wisdom to use at home with Nick. They spoke about their relationship and her intention to take things easy when it comes to wedding preparations.

Toyah Habeeb, however, will catch Leanne viewing one of Rowan’s motivational films in later scenes. Despite her enthusiasm about the advantages of his lessons, Toyah is still suspicious. Toyah becomes quite worried when she learns from Simon that Leanne has to be paying a large sum of money to the Autovalent Institute.

Later, Nick notices Leanne closing her eyes, to which she responds that she is “reality coding,” an effort to filter out the unexpected. Meanwhile, Debbie Webster informs Toyah that Rowan is heading back to the States and that she is looking forward to seeing him go since she has had enough of his absurd “reality coding” talk.

A panting Toyah shows up and starts questioning Rowan about the Autovalent Institute as he is checking out of the hotel. Toyah, a licenced therapist, admits that she is aware of Rowan’s reality coding nonsense and implies that it is detrimental for him to be doing it. Toyah cautions Nick that Leanne’s fixation with the Autovalent Institute must be put an end to before they embezzle all of her money, since Rowan is a con artist who preys on the weak.

Emrhys, who has lived in the United States for a long time, told the Manchester Evening News that he is “used to it” and isn’t disturbed by Toyah’s response. “He wholeheartedly believes in the cause and isn’t thrown easily.”

The 39-year-old said, hinting at more to come: “What you’ve seen of Rowan thus far is merely the tip of the iceberg.” He’s incredibly intelligent and skilled in his field. Leanne may be in awe of him, but he may also have other people under his spell who could end up at The Institute. I was surprised to see how many connections and analogies I had with this plot after reading the next scripts.”

Last month (March), Emrhys made his Corrie debut in the role of Rowan. Perhaps the most well-known role for the actor, singer, dancer, and director is that of the male protagonist in the StyleHaul drama series Vanity, which is nominated for an Emmy and stars Denise Richards and Karrueche Tran. Devon-born 39-year-old has previously acted in films including Mamma Mia, Walk a Mile in My Pradas, and his critically acclaimed feature debut, The Shuroo Process.

However, Emrhys is all too aware with the realities of cults since her parents, Christopher and Raphaela, have been in and out of organisations over the years. “My parents met a lot of Rowan types growing up in Totnes, Devon, a very new-age town and a breading hub of gurus and holistic doctors,” the actor said in an interview with the Manchester Evening News.

“I didn’t really understand it growing up but as I got older and witness first-hand some of the dangers of these types of characters, my mother’s health was severely effected by some very dangerous advice she received which is still incredibly upsetting to me.”
