Coronation Street to bring back ‘most grotesque villain ever’ in dark new story

Nathan Curtis, one of Coronation Street’s most evil villains ever, will be making a cobbles homecoming later this year.

According to rumours, Christopher Harper, who played the evil Nathan on the ITV serial opera from 2016 to 2018, may take on the character again in a future plot.

As fans will remember, Nathan was the manager of Supreme Tanning and was well-known for being a member of a group that used to groom young females.

He was first presented to Julia Goulding as a potential love interest for Shona Ramsey. Later, he met Bethany Platt, played by Lucy Fallon, whom he courted and encouraged to work at the tanning salon.

In the well-known plot, Bethany managed to get free from the gang, her assailants were put in prison, and she later testified against Nathan in court.

Since then, Nathan has stayed off the cobbles and in captivity, with the exception of a vision that Bethany saw in 2018 that had actor Christopher reprising his part.

But in later moments, when she finds out he’s getting out of jail, Bethany will be distraught.

Nathan is without a doubt the worst villain Corrie has ever created, an insider informed The Sun. One of the most significant plots in the soap opera was the grooming one. It is hoped that bringing it back would improve the programme.

“Producers are hoping that this risk will pay off, but it is risky.”

When fans suspected Nathan may have anything to do with Lauren Bolton’s disappearance earlier this year, many had projected a return for Nathan. While Bethany departed the cobbles in 2020, Lucy Fallon returned to the role last year, and fans continued to adore Bethany.

Only a few weeks have passed since it was announced that Nathan will make a reappearance on the ITV soap opera. In this new plotline, Toyah will discover the remains of her stillborn son.

Enthusiastic viewers and former cast members of the programme have criticised the future story and the serial’s overall harsher tone. The contentious and brutal plot from 2001—in which she was raped by Phil Simmonds—will be completely rewritten in the Toyah narrative, which is expected to be a major retraction.

Though Toyah was a well-known figure at the time, there was absolutely no indication at all of a pregnancy or loss.

However, viewers would be meant to think that Toyah went through this agony in secret and buried her deceased baby in the park in later scenes.

Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 8 p.m. on ITV1 and ITVX are when Coronation Street airs.
