In Emmerdale, Tom King’s (James Chase) violent attitude towards his wife Belle Dingle (Eden Taylor-Draper) is becoming worse and worse.
Sometimes it manifests itself in subtle ways, as the Monday, April 22, episode when he came at Wishing Well and shoved Belle off the seat she was using to make room for him to sit.
Even though this was just a little occurrence, Belle’s acceptance of it indicates that she has begun to instinctively submit to him.
Tom arrived to the residence with the intention of monitoring Vinny (Bradley Johnson). Tom is concerned for another reason, but Belle was already there because she was worried for her buddy.
He is afraid that Vinny would recall anything about the incident at the scrapyard and discover that Tom struck him and knocked him out.
Eventually, Vinny went upstairs to have a nap, and Tom made the decision to attempt to convince Belle to have sex with him while the home was vacant. She pulled him away, stating that she felt uneasy knowing that Vinny was upstairs and that Mandy (Lisa Riley) may enter at any time. She also said that she had to worry about her mother’s crocheted blanket.
One of Belle’s favourite keepsakes from her late mother Lisa (Jane Cox) is the recognisable granny square blankets that cover practically every surface in the Dingles house.
Tom pouted dramatically, shut her out, and attempted to place all the responsibility on her, as he usually does. He said that she had made him feel like his father and that she had expressed fear that he would rape her. A nasty guy named Carl King (Tom Lister) once tried to rape Chas Dingle (Lucy Pargeter) in a camper van. To get away, she gave him a brick to the head.
Belle’s tactic was successful since she felt awful for hurting Tom’s feelings. Despite the fact that he is unquestionably similar to his father, she reassured him.
Tom persuaded Belle to tell him about Liv’s asexuality and that it meant Vinny is still a virgin, as he had previously confided to her in secret, when she was trying to explain why she had been hesitant to be intimate.
Belle then approached Tom for sex in an attempt to reassure him and show that she wasn’t afraid of him.
Tom made sure Vinny knew precisely what had been going on when he arrived downstairs by dramatically zipping up and saying that the beloved crochet blanket would want some cleaning. Far, far too much data.
In Tom’s opinion, the day’s work was satisfactory. Not only had Belle acted precisely as he had desired, but he had gained more leverage on Vinny by disclosing to the other guy that he was aware of his lack of sexual experience. Given that Belle had betrayed his trust, this would possibly further sour relations between Vinny and Belle.
As Tom’s control over Belle tightens and we are left wondering exactly how awful things may become for Belle, all of these sequences were painful to witness.
