Recently, Billy Fletcher (Jay Kontzle) made the decision to give personal training another go in Emmerdale. Kim Tate (Claire King) will be closely monitoring him to make sure his job for her at Home Farm doesn’t suffer.
With only three students in his first class—Bear Wolf (Joshua Richards), Sam Dingle (James Hooton), and Manpreet Sharma (Rebecca Sarker)—the programme didn’t get off to a great start. Only Manpreet seemed interested among them, but at least she made the decision to continue having one-on-one sessions.
Throughout the lesson, Manpreet could not help but give Billy’s biceps the odd appreciative look. She seems eager to have even more intimate interactions with her personal trainer.
Manpreet admits to having a crush on Billy in future episodes, but Ella (Paula Lane) cautions her against trying to pursue the relationship further. Nevertheless, Manpreet abandons prudence and gives Billy a kiss after a few drinks.
Billy immediately informs his wife Dawn (Olivia Bromley) about this. Jay Kontzle said that while Billy is taken aback by Manpreet’s overtures, he is unconcerned about how the kiss would affect their marriage.
He said to us, “It’s one of those things where you’re like, ‘God, why have you done that?'”
Nevertheless, I believe that Dawn and Billy are so strong that nothing could truly end their relationship. Nothing would lead Dawn to view Billy differently and she doesn’t believe that he is that kind of person, so I don’t think this is a big concern at all; it’s just one of those things.
Naturally, Billy isn’t the first to cope with unwelcome advances—Gaby (Rosie Bentham) gave him a kiss earlier. Billy would be able to withstand temptation, Jay made that very obvious.
He is devoted to Dawn and his family. Since Billy has always been very focused on family and wanting to start his own, even though Clemmie (Mabel Addison) and Lucas (Noah Ryan Aspinall) already have children of their own, which is exactly what he was after. As a result, I don’t think that anything external will cause the relationship to fall apart—rather, it will be something internal.
Even though Billy and Dawn’s marriage is strong, they will encounter tremendous challenges in the near future as a result of Evan’s leukaemia diagnosis.
Jay, who really had his third kid in 2022, finds it difficult to perform this scenario.
“It was really hard for me to read this story because I had just given birth to another child,” he said. “Now that I’m worried about my own child, watching him grow, I don’t want something like this happening.”
That’s why these stories are so important to have in television shows; it forces you to consider it more and become more aware, which is obviously the whole point of it. However, sometimes it really gets to you because you’re stressed out about your own children and making sure you spend enough time with them because, well, nothing is certain and you never know what’s going to happen.
In order for people to be able to connect to that as much as possible, you sort of want to be able to show it on film as authentically as you can.
“There’s no point in doing a story if you’re not going to dive fully into it and understand it properly,” we said, requesting case studies, speaking with individuals, and understanding the strains and experiences faced by parents.
