Next week, Jane Danson’s popular character Leanne Battersby from Coronation Street will quietly leave Weatherfield. According to official ITV leaks, Georgia Taylor’s character Toyah Battersby finds an internet discussion board for former Altovalent Institute members.

When she tries to show Leanne a troubling post about the Institute, she discovers that it has been taken down because of legal problems. Leanne chooses to phone Rowan Cunliffe (Emrhys Cooper) despite dismissing Toyah’s worries. Rowan tells Leanne there’s no truth to her charges and that the post was written by his irate ex-partner.

Leanne is flattered when he tells her about his elevation to head of the North-West division and extends an invitation to have a tour of the Institute. Toyah listens in on Leanne’s talk with Jared, the man she met at the Institute who is eager to help Simon Barlow (Alex Bain) with his food delivery app.

Leanne is overjoyed when Simon says that Jared has agreed to meet with him and that he will need to borrow some money, but Toyah thinks this is just another con. She looks over Rowan’s page carefully and writes down a number.

Toyah sets up a meeting with Elizabeth Arends’ character, Una, Rowan’s ex-girlfriend, to share her concerns on her sister’s possible involvement with the Institute and danger. Is she going to get the confirmation she fears?

Toyah begs Leanne to reconsider her choice as she heads off for the retreat, but Leanne doesn’t waver.

When Simon realises she’s gone without saying goodbye, he’s distraught. The young man skips work, drinks away his sorrows, and ends up puking in Tim Metcalfe’s (Joe Duttine) taxi before running away without paying the price.

Leanne is totally engrossed in Rowan’s influence and has become entangled in the web of a sinister cult.

Rowan convinced Leanne to undergo “uploading” for the first time in recent scenes, a terrifying procedure that forced her to face her worst memories, including the death of her son Oliver.

Persuaded that Rowan was looking out for her best interests, Leanne opened up about her feelings of guilt about Oliver’s death, believing it was a kind of vengeance for her previous transgressions.

She revealed her history as a sex worker when Rowan urged her to do so, thinking that “uploading” these memories would lead to a more positive perspective.

But Rowan surreptitiously recorded their entire chat on his phone while Leanne moved away to get some water.

Now that Leanne has acknowledged planning the Valandro’s fire, it begs the issue of whether Rowan would use this tape to blackmail her.
