In Friday’s (May 10) Emmerdale episode, Ruby Fox-Miligan (Beth Cordingly) reprimanded partner Caleb Miligan (William Ash) after Nicky’s (Lewis Cope) vehicle accident.
Nicky and Ethan Anderson (Emile John) went to The Hide yesterday afternoon and had a drink. While Nicky was drowning his sorrows after Caleb had laughed in his face over a business concept, Ethan was busy enjoying his new job.
Nicky was terrified to learn that his partner, Suni Sharma (Brahmdeo Shannon Ramana), was in the same pub where the guys who had assaulted them the previous year were. Nicky got an anxious call from Suni Sharma.
Nicky stood up and was about to rush over there, but Ethan offered to take the wheel because he had consumed less alcohol.
It turned out to be a grave error.
Ethan took Nicky from the passenger side, put him on the ground, and fled their vehicle after it crashed on a rural road.
Fortunately, Moira Dingle (played by Natalie J Robb) located Nicky and dialled 911, leaving Ethan to attempt to hide his whereabouts.
In the ITV soap opera episode airing today, Ruby and Caleb were hospitalised for the whole day. After a brain bleed was discovered by the physicians yesterday, Nicky had emergency surgery and is now recovering in an induced coma.
As Caleb strolled around the ward carrying coffees, he heard a staff member talking about how Nicky had alcohol in his system at the time of the collision.
After providing an update, Ruby deduced that Nicky had become inebriated and had taken to driving in an attempt to “drown out” the things that Caleb had been saying to him lately.
Then, in a startling turn of events, Ruby warned Caleb that he would be to blame if Nicky died.
Ruby said that Nicky is “so desperate for a crumb of approval” from his father and that he totally idolises Caleb, but Caleb only criticises Nicky as the dispute went on.
Caleb thought that by making these remarks, Nicky would learn to be more self-reliant and cease thinking that his father “owed him a living.”
However, Nicky unquestionably owes his kid something after what Caleb had him do in relation to Home Farm and Gabby Thomas (Rosie Bentham), as Ruby said.
“I will never forgive you if he doesn’t make it through this,” Ruby said.
“I’ll never be able to forgive myself,” Caleb said.
